The type of the lesson: PPP lesson

Teaching methods: Questionnaire, Mind map, Brain Gym\Brainstorming, jumbled cards, identifying task for activate prior knowledge, choral drill, intensive listening, sentence completion, extension task, feedback, self-assessment

Teaching aids: interactive board, grammar tasks, slides, textbook, pictures, video, worksheets

Main aim(s): Ss need opportunities to get language right before they experiment. To extend range of vocabulary for describing sightseeing. Oral fluency practice.

Subsidiary aims: grammar: revise the past simple; vocabulary: consolidate lexis for travel; phonology: to focus on intonation; speaking: to give controlled oral practice.

Teacher asks using list of questions for developing speaking skills:

  • Do you speak English?

  • What’s your name?

  • Who are you?

II Checking home task

T. asks a question

-Why do people travel?

Ss give their opinions and complete mind map giving some variants. Then T. divides students into 3 groups and gives envelopes with tasks.

First of all, Ss match words with pictures. Then do the task to complete the sentences in Past simple tense.

III Warmer : to get students talking and introduce the topic.

T. gives jumble cards to Ss and they should guess the topic of the lesson.

IV First of all, T. gives new vocabulary with pictures.

After learning new words T. shows a video about sightseeing of London. After watching the video Ss have to answer the questions. Such as:

  • What’s video about ?

  • What are sightseeings do you see or listen?


  • «Сен Лондонда болып көрдің бе?»

  • Have you been to London?,-let’s translate this question. Ss should predict the meaning. And T. gives information about tense, explain it. Present perfect – to describe an event or situation which is part of one’s life experience.

e.g. I have been to Astana.

Then T. asks questions for checking students’ knowledge.
