Theme: Environmental Problems

Aims of the lesson: 1. Identify and discuss different kinds of pollution.

2. Identify and discuss sources of pollution.

3. Bring-up the sense of responsibility and to teach respect the nature, environment

Aids: lesson vocabulary cards, photographs of water, air, and land pollution.

Type of the lesson: combined

Method: brainstorming, working in pairs.

Цель урока: формирование коммуникативной компетенции учащихся на основе изученных лексических единиц, речевых и грамматических структур по теме “Экологические проблемы”.

Задачи урока:

- активизация лексики, закрепление грамматических навыков говорения с использованием грамматических структур.

- развитие личностной активности учащихся, познавательного интереса, познавательных способностей (речь, память, внимание, воображение) мышления.

- формирование уважительного отношения к природе и ответственного отношения к экологическим проблемам, чувства любви к природе и ответственности за ее сохранение.

Тип урока: систематизация и обобщение знаний.

Оборудование: компьютер; мультимедийный проектор.

Оснащение урока: иллюстрации, карточки с заданиями.











Procedure of the lesson

1. Organizational moment .Greeting. The Theme and the Aim of the lesson.

Let’s start our lesson. As you can see we have quests…

Now look at the screen. There are some photos. I’d like you to describe them.

And now guess - what is the theme of our lesson…

Yes. You are right. The theme is «Environmental problems». We will speak about our planet, ecological problems and solutions. And , of course, we will make The Code of Ecological Problems for everybody.



2. Monologues.

What environmental problems can you name?

Of course, they are all important. What can you tell about these issues .



3. Listening.

Let’s do 1 listening task. Page 122 ex 1. Read the task.



4. Work in Pairs.

Let’s continue our lesson and work in pairs. Open your books, p 110 ex 2.

There is a table of 3 columns. Causes \ Consequences \ Solutions.

Use this table and make sentences.



5. A short REST.

Look at these beautiful pictures of our land I’d like to read the poem:





“The Earth”

The Earth is a garden

It’s a beautiful place

For all living creatures

For all the human races

Helping Mother Earth

We can peacefully roam

We all diverse a place

We can call our home



Look at the card with the word, The Earth ‘ and I ask you to name the words, which come to you mind connecting with this word and our theme .

Who will be the first and name the words to each letter of the word ,,EARTH ’’

E – environment, ecology, ecological, ecologist, effect, erosion, extinction, endangered, ecosystem,

A – air , animals, acid, alarming,

R – river, radiation, radioactive, resources , recycle,

T – tree, temperature, threat, tropical,

H – home , hill, hope, hopefully, hunting, help, human

7 . Make up «The CODE of ECOLOGICAL RULES».

Of course governments of different countries pay much attention to problems of environment but much depends on us. Let’s make the Code of Ecological Rules for everybody.

Suggested answers:

– Never drop litter in the street;– Sort rubbish: use special containers for paper, tins, food, white glass, brown glass and green glass;
– Don’t spray chemicals! 
– Use less paper. 
– Save energy. Use less electricity and gas.
– Have showers, not baths. Showers use less water.
– Don't leave fire in the forest. 
– Change our attitude to the nature;

- We can get involved in clean-ups.

- We must put rubbish into rubbish bins.

-We can plant flowers and trees, feed birds in our gardens and forests.

-We can get involved in clean-ups.

- We must save energy, water and we must recycle materials.

-We can and must encourage other people to keep our nature clean and beautiful
