Ход урока

I Введение в коммуникативную ситуацию урока

Hi everybody hope you are fine. How are you? I’m glad everybody is fine and ready to take part in our lesson today. I’d like to start the lesson with solving a dilemma. Have a look at this slide 1. How DO you think why some people look slim and healthy while others look plump and unattractive? What influences our health and figure? (doing sport healthy habits & eating healthy food) .Right you are . All these things are very important especially our diet.

Let’s see whether you keep healthy diet.Could you answer some questions?

-What food is your favorite?

-How much water do you drink a day?

-How often do eat fruit and vegetables?

-Do you put any sugar into your tea?

-Do you sometimes go to fast food restaurants

Who can summarize all the information you have heard in 3-4 sentences? Do our children keep healthy or unhealthy diet? You can start like this ( I can say my classmates eat….Though they…)

As you can guess the topic of our lesson is “We what we eat” (slide 2 ). This expression belongs to the ancient healer Hippocrates who lived many centuries ago. Even then people realized the importance of food they ate. So we will have to find out which food brings good to our body and which one we’d better avoid. During the lesson we are also going to compare British and Belorussian cuisines.

II Работа с пословицами

First of all let’s see how well you know English proverbs about food. On the blackboard there are some proverbs and each of them is divided into 2 halves. Could you join them translate and give Russian equivalents .

Let’s see if have done right . Slide 3

Proverbs

Too many cooks spoil the broth

Half a loaf is better than none

Hunger is the best sauce

Tastes differ

An apple a day keeps the doctor away

You know every country has it’s own traditions and customs. It concerns food as well. Do you know what British people have for breakfast lunch dinner. What is their favorite food? Is lunch their main meal? Do they often eat fast food? Let’s watch the video and find out it (video)

-Ok .How many times a day do British have a meal?

-What do they usually have for breakfast?

-Do they often eat meat for breakfast?

-What does traditional English breakfast consist of ?

-What time do they have lunch ?

-What their most common food for lunch?

- When do they have their main meal?

-what do they usually have for Dinner?

-Is it popular with British to go out for evening meal?

-Do you think traditional British food is healthy ? Why?(they eat a lot of sandwiches and chips – it’s unhealthy but they eat a lot of vegetables and fruit as well) Would you like to try their Fish and chips? Why?

IV Чтение с извлечением необходимого материала

I hope it was interesting for you to watch the video and you have got lots of new information but I’d like you to learn some more interesting facts about one of the most popular British desert which is eaten just at Christmas- Christmas pudding. Slide 4 I will give the sheets of paper with the text. Let’s read and answer the questions.

Text: Christmas pudding is one of the richest desserts in the world. It is the main product at Christmas. Many British people will agree that without it Christmas is not a Christmas.

Before the 17th century, the main Christmas dish for British people was the plum pudding, the father of Christmas pudding. It was made with lots of dried plumps and looked like a thick soupIt was served with meat and eaten with a spoon. With time, people added other ingredients, such as mutton, raisins, wine, ginger and cloves and it became so thick that a spoon stood in it. So, the original Christmas pudding wasn’t really a dessert at all!

During the rule of Oliver Cromwell eating Christmas pudding was illegal in Britain. Cromwell said that the dish was very rich to eat it. So, he banned eating pudding. Any personwho ate it was sent to jail or fined.

a) Find the English variant in the text

b) Answer the questions.

1. The 1stpudding was made in the 10th century, wasn’t it?

2. What was it made from?

3. It wasn’t served with meat, was it?

4. Who banned Christmas pudding?

5. Why did he ban it?
