Hippocrates – «The father of medicine» 460 B.C
- He observed diseases such a pneumonia, tuberculosis and malaria and added to the medical language such words as chronic, crisis, relapse and convalescence. Hippocrates used herbs for treatment
Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen
- Produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range known as X-rays or Röntgen rays, an achievement that earned him the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. In honour of his accomplishments, in 2004 the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry named element 111, roentgenium , a radioactive element with multiple unstable isotopes, after him.
Svyatoslav Nikolayevich Fyodorov
- was a Russian ophthalmologist , politician , professor, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Russian Academy of Medical Sciences . He is considered to be a pioneer of refractive surgery .
Joseph Lister (1827 – 1912).
- An English surgeon.
- He was the founder of antiseptic surgery.
- He was the first to discover the reasons for infection and the way to prevent it.
- The best monument to Joseph Lister is the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine in London.
Alexander Fleming ( 1881 – 1955).
- He discovered a liquid mould culture, which he named penicillin. It prevented growth of staphylococci.
- He is known as the “father of antibiotics”.
