Discussion

Ask questions to students:

- What foreign writers are known?

- What works have you read?

- Do they like foreign literature or Russian literature more?

Why?

The first foreign writer whom we will analyze is the English writer Daniel Defoe (1660 – 1731). He is known to the world mainly as the author of the novel "Robinson Crusoe" (1719). The full title of the novel sounds like " The life, extraordinary and amazing adventures of Robinson Crusoe, a sailor from York, who lived for 28 years all alone on a desert island an island off the coast of America near the mouth of the Orinoco River, where he was thrown out by a shipwreck, during which the entire crew of the ship except him died, with an account of his unexpected release by pirates; written by himself."

Robinson Crusoe finds himself on a desert island. He builds a house for himself, sews clothes, cooks food, gets animals. Crusoe explores the island and discovers tribes of savages. One day he saves a savage, takes him to live with him and calls him Friday. This is a fascinating novel-adventure about friendship, courage and human skills in any conditions.

The second foreign writer is the Scottish writer Robert Lewis Stevenson. The author of the world-famous novel "Treasure Island" (1883).

Scottish writer and poet, author of the world-famous novel "

Treasure Island" (1883). The novel was published in a children's magazine by chapters. There are 34 chapters in total in "Treasure Island". The narration is conducted on behalf of the main character Jim Hawkins. In total, the novel "Treasure Island" has 34 chapters, which are divided into 6 parts. Treasure hunts, pirates, maps, ships, adventures-all this touched the world. A musical was created for "Treasure Island", about 10 films were shot and even a cartoon was created. Its popularitycaused a reaction – the creation of parodies and sequels. Many foreign and Russian writers took the image of treasure island and treasure hunting as the main ones in their works.

The third foreign writer is the French writer, poet and professional pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900-1944). The mostfamous work of the fairy tale is the story "The Little Prince" (1943).

It is interesting that the drawings in the book are made by the author himself and are no less

famous than the book itself. The author and the characters of the book always refer to the

drawings and even argue about them. A well-known quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupery himself from the dedication to the book:

"After all, all adults were children at first, only few of them remember this."

Briefly tell about the main characters, the plot, the meeting with the Fox and Snake and travel around the planets.

The fourth foreign writer is the English writer Arthur Conan Doyle (Doyle) (1859-1930), author of numerous adventure, historical, fantastic and humorous works. The creator of detective characters, one of which is the world-famous Sherlock Holmes. Two famous collections of short stories about Sherlock Holmes:

"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (1892) - a collection of 12 detective stories stories. "Notes about Sherlock Holmes "(1894) - a collection of 11 detective stories. In a number of stories, criminals go unpunished for one reason or another. In many stories about Sherlock Holmes, there is a

theme of justifying falsely accused people. The brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson embark on a quest for the truth, solving puzzles to uncover all the secrets. Readers will immerse themselves in the world of Sherlock Holmes completely and completely. In all the stories and novels about the famous detective there is a great sense of humor and beautiful examples of the flexibility of the human mind, which is able to expose anyone. Sherlock Holmes is the idol of millions of people.

Legends are made up about him, a huge number of films and TV series have been shot (the Russian

series about Sherlock Holmes is recognized as the most successful film adaptations, and the actor who played Sherlock Holmes is still considered the best Sherlock Holmes in the world), comics were created, and in England there is even a street where the book character lived and a Sherlock Holmes museum.

Discuss Sherlock Holmes with the students, what they still know about him, what stories they have read, what films they have watched.

The fifth (and last) foreign writer is the English and Irish writer, scientist Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963). He is known for his works on medieval literature, as well as works of fiction in the fantasy genre. The creator of the famous series of books "The Chronicles of Narnia" (1950-1956). The cycle includes 7 books (fairy tales). In the " Chronicles Narnia " tells about the adventures of children in a magical country

called Narnia, where animals can talk, magic does not surprise anyone, and good fights evil. The most popular from the cycle "Chronicles Narnia " are three books on which films were made in the XXI century.

• "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (1950)

• "Prince Caspian" (1951)

• "The Conqueror of the Dawn, or Sailing to the End of the World" (1952)

Ask students about the "Chronicles of Narnia", find out if they watched the films, liked them or not. Have you read books? Discuss the heroes.

Results:

This is also an amazing world with its own rules and laws, with its own heroes and entire Universes. Of course, we will not be able to cover everything at once, but at least to plunge a little, to look into a new

world with one eye, is one of the main tasks of any literature.

At the end of the lesson, you can give students a list of recommended foreign literature, compiled at your personal discretion.
