Theme: “Table Manners”

Aim: to revise the material, to show skills in speaking and understanding ,in writing task, to use the dialogical speech.

Aids: cards with special tasks, some crockery, papers and shirts of paper

Type of the lesson: competition

Greeting: Good morning, pupils.

Organizational moment: T: Answer my questions:

What date is it today? – P1. Today is the ….

What say of the week is today? - P2. Today is Friday.

What is the weather today? - P3. Today is warm.

What season is it now? - P4. Now it is winter.

T: Today we have the conclusion of our theme “Table Manners”.

We have 2 teams: The leaders introduce your teams: “Cups” and “Glasses.”

The leader of the I-st team – Our team is “Cups” (together) Our motto is We are cups

We are short

We are stout

Drink tea from cups.

The leader of the II-d team – Our team is “Glasses”(together)

Our motto is Drink milk,

Drink cacao,

Drink juice,

Drink lemonade from glasses.

Task I: Cross out extra words: Use pens and cards. When you finish give to the jury.

Card1: Breakfast, flower, lunch, supper Card 2: red, green, ball

3. door, pencil, ruler, rubber 3. Sun, stars, dirt, moon

4. School, sofa, bed, cupboard 4. Plum, banana, melon,

Task 2: Answering:

  1. What makes the table nice? P1. Tablecloth

  2. What do you say, when finish to eat? P2. Thank you.

  3. How should you eat? P3. With close mouth

  4. What do you use to wipe your mouth? P4. napkin

  5. What do you use to cut the big piece of meat? P5. A knife

Task 3: Chainwords: Find the words and read them:

Task4: Manners (orally): The leaders come to me and choose the cards with the special task: napkin manners and fork and knife manners.

Be ready to speak and show manners at the table. Choose the necessary things for your task.

Napkin Manners: put the napkin on the lap. If you leave the table for some minutes, put the napkin on the back of the chair. When you finish to eat, wipe your mouth and put the napkin on the left side of the plate.

Fork and Knife Manners: Use fork in your hand, knife in your left hand.

Cut the big piece of meat into small pieces. When you finish to eat, put the fork and knife on the right side of the plate.

Task 5: Crossword: Use the pens, find the words and circle them.

Task 6: I have some sentences, your task is to put the sentences in correct order, then read this dialogue:

  • Please, come in.

  • Thank you.

  • Please, sit down. Would you like a cup of tea?

  • Yes, please.

  • Help yourself to scones.

  • Thank you.

  • How about some cream?

  • No, thank you. Could you pass me the sugar, please?

  • Yes, here you are.

  • Can I have another cup of tea?

  • Yes, certainly.



Task 7: Speaking: Say the table manners:

- Before eating, wash your hands.

- Put the napkin on the lap.

- Use the fork and knife.

- It is not polite to leave the teaspoon in the cup.

- Don’t read, when you eat.

- Don’t put the elbows on the table.

- Don’t take the bread with a fork.

- Don’t lick the knife.

- Eat with close mouth.

- It is not polite to leave the table when others eat.



Our competition is finished. Thank you very much. You show your skills . You work very hard. Now our jury tells us the results.
