1.Leading-in stage (W)

Teacher shows the phrase EARTH DAY written on the board or PPt and asks learners what they think when they read this phrase. Teacher accepts all answers.

Reading

(I) Learners read a short information about Earth and answer 3 questions

Earth Day was founded in 1970 by the American Senator G. Nelson. The holiday is annually celebrated in many countries since then. In the northern hemisphere, Earth Day is celebrated in spring and in the southern hemisphere - in autumn. 
The main objective of this world event is attraction of the society's attention and all people to the problems of the Earth, the environment's problems.

Q3:Why do people celebrate Earth Day? _____to attract to and solve the problems of environment

Differentiation

Less able students are given thinking time to make up a sentence.



Watching a video How Do I Help the Earth?

Learners will watch a video and complete the table

Task: Watch the video How Do I Help the Earth? and put the sentences in the correct order according to the video.

Differentiation

Less able learners can work in pairs.



Making a poster.

Learners are split in groups of 3-4 children and prepare a poster “How do I help the Earth?” , for example, about Earth Day and ideas how people do not care about environment and how they can solve the problem, then present it to the classmates. Learners listen and assess a group presenting a poster according criteria:

  1. Poster is colourful

  2. There are at least 3 ideas presented

  3. Speakers sound clearly

Differentiation

Less able students are given some help from peers.

Learners present their posters and express their ideas in front of the class.

Teacher provides open class discussion.


3. Plenary

Teacher asks students to write a reflection of the lesson.
