We used to think that Christmas is something special – of course it is! It is family meetings full of warmth, tender, laughing, kisses and hugs; lots of fun with friends, opening of presents… it’s the time when we don’t need to worry about problems, time to remember Jesus… It is time to be happy!!!   What makes Christmas unique in different parts of the world? Let’s find it out!!

We used to think that Christmas is something special – of course it is! In Australia…  Santa Claus appears on the surfing board Christmas in Australia is very hot. People go to the beach on Christmas, because no-one wants to stay home and watch TV. So it is not surprising that Santa Claus comes from the ocean on a surfboard.  There is even “Santa Foamie Surfing Contest” which helps to raise money.

In Finland …  people visit the cemetery to show respect for the dead relatives .

In Austria… Krampus – is a monster with goat horns , bells and rods  young men dress up in monster called

young men dress up in monster called " Krampus " and scare children. Here Christmas is not only a holiday , but also a reason to punish “bad” children. St. Nicholas gives gifts to obedient children and Krampus threatens to put those who doesn't behave well in a bag and to carry away in the terrible cave."

In India …  most people practice Hinduism or Islam, but that small part that celebrates Christmas, people decorate mango trees or banana palm trees on this holiday.

In France …  children leave their shoes at a fireplace before going to bed so that Pere Noel could fill it with gifts. When Pere Noel brings gifts, he puts small toys, fruit and nuts in the corresponding boots and shoes.

In Britain …  children throw letters to Santa Claus into the burning fireplace.The British children write the desires on sheets of paper but instead of sending by mail, throw into the burning fireplace, hoping that the smoke will lift them on a pipe and will inform to the North Pole. If the letter doesn't rise and lights up, the kid should write another.

And so…  Although there are a lot of different Christmas traditions, in every country Christmas is a family holiday and traditions make it special, more funny and interesting. Thank you for your attention!
