Sir Christopher Wren
Said,I am going to dine with some men
If anybody calls
Say I am designing St.Paul’s
Baa,baa black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes,sir,yes,sir
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame
And one for the little boy
Who lives down
the lane
Riddle –
Humpty – Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall. All the King’s horses, All the King’s men, Couldn’t put Humpty together again
Hush-a-bue,baby
On the tree top.
When the wind blows,
The cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks,
The cradle will fall,
And down will come baby,
Candle and all
пошла на базар» ( This little pig went to market )
This little pig went to market,
This little pig stayed at home,
This little pig had roast beef,
This little pig had none,
And this little pig cried,
Wee-wee-wee-wee-wee,
I can’t find my way home

There was an Old Man of Peru, Who dreamt he was eating his shoe. He awoke in the night In a terrible fright And found it was perfectly true!
There was a Young Lady of Niger, Who smiled as she rode on a tiger; They returned from the ride With the Lady inside, And the smile on the face of the tiger

Edward Lear (1812-1888)
The limerick form was popularized by Edward Lear in his first Book of Nonsense (1845). Lear wrote 212 limericks, nonsense verse
A book of Nonsense
Edward Lear was an artist and a poet. Lear himself didn’t call his rhymes limericks. He called them nonsense, so his first book published in 1846 was called “A Book of Nonsense”. Edward Lear addressed his book to the children and his nonsense verses were accompanied by naughty drawings
Limericks was and is translated into different languages of the world. The translations of V. Orlov, S. Satin, O. Аstaf’yeva and others

There was an old person of Ewell,
There was an old man of Dumbree,
Who taught little owls to drink tea
Who chiefly subsisted on gruel;
For he said, «To eat mice Is not proper or nice».
But to make it more nice,
That amiable man of Dumbree
He inserted some mice, Which refreshed that old person of Ewell
