Read the text.

Almaty is located in the south – east of the country. Its area is 104,900 with the population 1,147,00. It is located at the foothills of the Zailiisky Alatay mountains.

This city is known as a garden city, it is noted for its apples, from whioch it is gained its name ( «alma» means apple in Kazakh)

There are a lot of places of interests in Almaty The Palace of Republic, museums, thetres, inemas, squares and parks. The guests of the city enjoy to go to Medeo skating rink where many world records have been broken.

In recent yeаrs some outstanding examples of modern architecture have been established Almaty. One such is Hotel Kazakhstan, built in 1970.

The building of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan in Almaty attracts the foreigner`s attention. It was constructed in 1950.

The citizens of Almaty are proud of the Glory Memorial, the largest of a number of monuments in the central park of the city that commemorate those who fell in the Great Patriotic War.

One of the modern buildings in Almaty is the house of Almaty Circus, with a sculpture of a clown in the foreground.

Almaty has many modern buildings which successfully incorporate elements of old Kazakh, Central Asian and Arabian architecture.

In Almaty there is the National Museum of Kazakhstan, built and opened in the late 1980-s and the Museum of national instruments. The museums have fascinating collection of archaeological, historical and ethnographic exhibits.
