Kislovodsk Mountain Park, one of the most beautiful in the Caucasus, was laid out in 1823 along the River OIkhovka. Its total area is now over 1,200 hectares.
Its shady groves, friendly glades and avenues have become not only a favorite place for relaxation, but a veritable museum of Caucasian flora.
There are over 260 species of trees and shrubs representing the world's most varied climatic zones. Young plants reach for the sun near giants hundreds of years old. The Caucasian beech stands next to the Amur cork tree and the Siberian larch, the tender green of the birch mingles with the pale blue of the silver fir.
All are inhabited by cheerful flocks of birds whose twittering can be heard all the year round. Squirrels from Kirghizia have settled in the park to stay.
. THE PARK IS BEAUTIFUL AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR. IT IS FABULOUSLY MAGNIFICENT IN WINTER, WHEN THE LIGHT SNOW SETTLES ON THE BRANCHES OF THE TREES, A RIOT OF GREEN IN SPRING, LUXURIANTLY COLORFUL IN SUMMER, AND ESPECIALLY POETIC IN AUTUMN, WHEN THE AVENUES ARE SPREAD WITH A CARPET OF GOLDEN LEAVES AND A VIVID PURPLE TINGES THE CLUMPS OF BUSHES. THE AIR HERE IS FRESH AND COOL EVEN ON THE HOTTEST DAYS.

The park is the focus of life in Kislovodsk, and many sanatorium blocks are adjacent to it.
The OIkhovka Embankment from the white-columned main entrance to the park leads to Mirror Pond and the elegant TLadies' Caprice Bridge. Further over the winding paths or stone steps, you can walk up to the top of Mount Sosnovaya, from which there is a view of the city and its environs.

The air is fragrant with flowers in the Vale of Roses. The blooms, grown by the nurserymen of Kislovodsk, also beautify the grounds of the USSR Economic Achievements Exhibition in Moscow
With each step as you climb up, you see a wider panorama of the town and its environs. From the cliff by the Temple of Air, there is a view of the distant south and the summits of the Great Caucasian Range, with the conical peaks of Elbrus.
