Занятие проводится в форме прогулки по Лондону. Учитель выступает в роли гида. На каждой остановке учащиеся смотрят видео фрагменты и вместе выполняют задание, за каждое задание получают изображение достопримечательности и собирают карту достопримечательностей Лондона.

Guide: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I am your guide. Today we are going to visit some interesting places in London. They are the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral…. But our tour is unusual. You, tourists, will take an active part in the tour. You should see these places; listen to the information about them and if you want to move to the next station you should do some tasks. For every task you’ll take the card to make the map of interesting places of London.
You should listen to me very attentively. So now, please, think about the names of your teams.
Warm up and lead in.
Guide: Ok, now we are ready to start our trip, but of course we need tickets. I want you to make one easy task and I’ll give you tickets. Look at the screen, there is a cloud of words. Try to find words connecting with London (for example its symbols, outstanding people and so on). If you say just a word you can take 1 coin, if you can tell me a sentence with this word – 2coins.
Station 1: Buckingham Palace
Guide: Well, we begin our tour from Buckingham Palace. It’s the home of Queen and the Royal family.

Video: It was built in 1837 and has served as the official London residence of the Royal Family.
Tourists always go to BP to see the ceremony of changing the Guard.
Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. They include 19 State rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.
Despite the fact that BP is the place where many official events are held, the state rooms are always open to the public during the summer months.

Station 2 : The Tower of London.
Guide: As you know it is a famous tower all over the world. I believe you know a lot of information about it. That is why I prepare you a task that contains facts and fictions about The Tower of London. Let’s do it and then we’ll watch the video about the Tower of London.
FACTS OR FICTONS
It is one of the oldest places in London.
It is situated on the bank of the Thames.
You can see it from the Tower Bridge.
In the past it was used as a fortress, a palace, a prison, a royal treasure house.
It was used even as a zoo.
Now it is used as a cinema.
White Tower is the oldest part of the Tower of London.
During the wars the Tower of London was ruined twice
Ravens have always been kept at the Tower of London.
Queen Elizabeth II lives in the Tower of London.

Video: It’s oldest building in London. The Tower of London is also one of the most famous and most interesting places in the city.
Since it was built by William the Conqueror, this Tower has been a Royal palace, a prison, a place of execution, a fortress, an observatory and even a zoo.
The guardians of the Tower tell tourists many thrilling stories about things, which happened here when the place was a prison. They say that the King’s second wife, Anne Boleyn, was beheaded there in 1536. The future Queen Elizabeth I was also one of the prisoners. Later she was released from the Tower and became Queen.
There is also one story, which explains why the Tower of London started to be the zoo. The guardians say that King Henry III was given an elephant, a polar bear and several leopards as gifts. He had no place to keep them in except for the Tower
Despite being called “The Tower of London”, this place consists of 20 towers.

Today the Tower of London is known as a historical museum. It’s also the home of the Crown Jewels.
Station 3: Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament
Guide: The next two places we are going to visit today are the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

Video: Big Ben is the largest clock of England. Actually, Big Ben is the huge bell inside the building. Its weight is about 13 tons and it rings every hour daily.
Big Ben in considered to be the biggest bell ever made in the country.
The bell was firstly used in 1589 and was cracked soon because of the heavy hammer, which struck too strong. After this situation the hammer was changed but the crack is still there.
The House of Parliament. Its official name is the Palace of Westminster.
Most of the building was build in 1840 after the fire of 1834 destroyed the old palace. At the north end of the building you can find Big Ben.
The Palace of Westminster is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture. It is also the seat of the two parliamentary houses of the UK.
The Palace of Westminster is located on the left bank of the River Thames. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in London

Station 4: St. Paul’s Cathedral
Guide Let’s watch the video about St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Video: It is the largest and the most famous church in London. St. Paul’s Cathedral is also considered to be one of the most spectacular cathedrals in the world.
This cathedral has a huge dome. It’s the second largest cathedral dome in the world.
You can also see a cross at the top. It’s in 365 feet the ground.
St. Paul’s Cathedral is very beautiful inside. After looking around, you can climb 263 steps to the Whispering Gallery. It is located above the arches in the dome it’s called the Whispering Gallery because if someone whispers close to the wall on one side, a person with an ear close to the wall on the other side can hear what is said.
If you climb another 118 steps, you will be able to stand outside the dome and look over London.

Station 5: Westminster Abbey
Guide: Very nice. Let’s go on? All tourists always want to visit Westminster Abbey.
Video: It’s Gothic building which is situated opposite the House of Parliament. It was founded by Edward the Confessor in 1065.
It’s a place where kings, queens and many famous people are buried. The Abbey is sometimes compared as a Mausoleum.
Since the time of William the Conqueror Westminster Abbey has been the crowing place of kings and queens of England.

Station 6: Hide Park
Video: It’s the largest and the most fashionable park in London.
Hyde Park covers over 1,4 sq kl or 350 acres .
It has a wonderful landscape and is often used for political meeting or festive celebrations. This park used to be a hunting area.
The main attraction of the park is Serpentine Lake which is open for swimmers
Hyde Park is also famous for its Speaker’s Corner, it’s the place where different orators and preachers demonstrate their eloquence.
Nowadays Hyde Park is often used for different rock concerts.

Station 7: The London Eye
Video: The giant Ferris wheel is situated on the bank of the river Thames. It is 135 meters tall and the diameter of the wheel is 120 meters. The journey usually lasts 30 minutes. The London Eye includes 32 booths. They are locked outside and cannot be open from inside. Up to 25 people can fit in one booth. The
London Eye can be seen from different parts of the city. At night time it’s illuminated. This attraction is very popular among visitors.
