Числительные английского языка подразделяются на количественные и порядковые.

Порядковые числительные (ordinal numerals) указывают на порядок объектов, их порядковый номер. Они отвечают на вопрос «который (по счёту?)». Большинство порядковых числительных образуется с помощью окончания – th , однако есть три исключения, которые необходимо запомнить!

1 – first 2 – second 3 – third

21 – twenty first, 32 – thirty second, 53 – fifty third

В остальных случаях к количественному числительному просто прибавляется –th, но встречаются некоторые сложности в словообразовании и таких порядковых числительных!

12 – twelf th 20 – twentieth 100 – hundred th 200 – two hundredth 1000 – thousand th

1200 – one thousand two hundred th

100 000 – hundred thousand th 1 000 000 – million th

Существительные, перед которыми стоят порядковые числительные, используются с определённым артиклем the. Они отвечают на вопрос « который по счёту ?».

It is the first time I’ve been to Paris.

The tenth toy in my collection is my favourite.
