T-1 Comrade Cadets and dear guests, we are glad to see you! (слайд 1)
Soon we’ll celebrate a great holiday – Victory Day. On May 9, there will be the 70th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. It’s a special day. It’s a wonderful holiday different from all other holidays. It is a national holiday and at the same time it’s a very personal one.
T-2 Young generation know about the Great Patriotic War only from books and films. But it is difficult to believe that our hearts are not excited on Victory day.
Time takes that historic day farther away from us, but we always must remember it because it is closely related with our grandparents or great grandparents which did all their best to bring this Victory closer.
T-1 Our country lost more than 27 mln of people in that war and saved the world from fascism. We should never forget those who gave their lives for our Motherland. (слайд 2)

Т-1 Our lesson will be devoted to the 70th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. The 22d of June. The German fascists attacked the SU – our country. The Great Patriotic War began. All people, young and old, stood proudly and fought together for motherland and her sons. (слайд 3)

P-1 It’s death, pain, losts and tears.
P-2 Broken lives, which will never see the sun, will never feel the mother’s care, will never support their wives and husbands.
P-3 This is the end, for them, for those who died. But not for us, for us this is a victory through tears. This is a victory day - a great day!!
T-1 You are the children of the 21st century. You are far from the days of the Great Patriotic War. How can you learn about the war? (слайд 5)
P-1 We learn about those great events because our grandparents tell us about them. We read books and watch films about war. We surf the Internet and that’s why we know some facts of that period.
P-2 Some kids are greatly interested in the history of their Motherland and the whole world. They register in the special sites and exchange the information about the war.
P-3 I surf one of such sites, which tells me about children’s opinion of different global issues and current events. Teenagers of different countries discuss World War II from the different points of view. First of all, of course, they tell about their grandparents and even great-great grandparents who took part in the war actions. Some of them were killed, some were badly injured and some were fortunate to come back home safe (just without one finger, for instance). All the kids are very proud of their ancestors.
T-2 What was the main appeal during the war?
P-1 During the war the Soviet people mobilized all the forces for the struggle against the enemy. The country lived in accordance with the appeal: ‘Everything for the front, everything for the Victory’. (слайд 6)
T-1 What great battles and great victories do you know?
P-2 During the war there were a lot of great battles and great victories: famous Battle for Moscow, the Battle for Stalingrad, the Tank Battle on Kursk Arc, then the Defense of Novorossiysk and Sevastopol. (слайд 7-10)

- Read and translate the text:
The Battle of Moscow.
As you know, in the autumn of 1941 the enemy concentrated his main forces west of our capital. The enemy wanted to attack and capture Moscow. In the German Army Group «Center» there were 55 infantry, 8 mechanized infantry and 14 tank divisions. The enemy began his first offensive in October 1941 but it failed.
On the 15- 16th of November the German fascists began their second offensive. They wanted to surround and destroy the main forces of the Soviet Army at the approaches to Moscow. But the Soviet army inflicted heavy losses on the enemy and stopped him. Then it began the counter- offensive and forced the fascists to retreat in the western direction.
Heavy defensive battles near Moscow lasted for 67 days. During these battles the enemy suffered heavy losses in manpower and materiel. Only during the second offensive the enemy lost about 155000 men and officers in killed and wounded. The enemy losses in materiel were also heavy. The German fascists lost about 800 tanks, 300 guns and 1500 planes.

T-1 In 4 long years came the Great Victory. Why did our army and our people win it? (слайд 11)
P-3 It was possible because it was the war for our independence and liberation. Because all people of our multinational country fought together on the fronts and everybody from children to old men worked in the rear. It was a great effort of all our country.
T-2 There were a lot of heroes; about 12000 became the titles the Hero of SU. We are proud of the heroes from our region.
Did the Kuban Cossacks take part in the WW2? (слайд 12)
P-1 In the earliest battles Cossack units fought to their death. (слайд 13-19)
The Kuban Cossacks were allocated to the 10th, 12th and 13th Corps. However, the most famous Kuban Cossack unit would be the 17th Cossack Corps under the command of general Nikolay Kirichenko.
P-2 The Cossack population became involved in Partisan activity. After the German defeat at Stalingrad, the 4th Guards Kuban Cossack Corps, strengthened by tanks and artillery, broke through the German lines and liberated Mineralnye Vody, and Stavropol.
P-3 The famous IV-th Guards Kuban Cossack Regiment which took part in heavy fighting in the course of the liberation of Southern Ukraine and Romania was allowed to proudly march on the Red Square in the famous Victory parade of 1945.

T-2 What can you say in the conclusion?
P-1 70 years have passed since the day of the Victory in the Great Patriotic war, but its echo till now doesn’t calm down in humans` souls. We haven’t the right to forget the horror of that war. We haven’t the right to forget those soldiers, who died for our bright future.
P-2 We must remember everybody and everything. We must come down the memory about one of the most terrible war, which concerned every family, from father to son.
P-3 A lot of people met their death during this war. They brought the Victory for us and they are living in our hearts in the names of our streets, parks squares and we can say to those who fell for our country, who sleep at the grave carved on the gravestone “Your deed is immortal”. (слайд 25)
