Тема: «Natural Disasters».

Цели урока:

Образовательная: совершенствовать лексику по теме «Стихийные бедствия», формировать коммуникативную культуру школьников, тренировать учащихся в говорении, чтении, письме. Формировать социокультурную компетенцию: научить строить речевое взаимодействие в устной форме в соответствии с нормами культуры страны изучаемого языка.


Развивающая: создавать условия для развития памяти, лексических и коммуникативных навыков, умения строить диалогическое высказывание этикетного характера в связи с предложенной ситуацией: поддержать разговор о погоде .Развивать умение составлять и разыгрывать микро-диалог с опорой на диалог-образец ("Talking about Weather").


Воспитательная: способствовать воспитанию бережного отношения к окружающей природе.

Языковой материал: лексические единицы по теме стихийные бедствия.

Необходимое оборудование и материалы: учебник, ноутбук, рабочие тетради, карточки с заданиями, видео «Flood in the UK», карта Беларуси, картинки стихийных бедствий мира.

Ход урока

Good morning, boys and girls! Good morning, dear guests! Glad to see you.

Let's begin our lesson on the topic “Natural Disasters». At our lesson we'll discuss natural disasters and their influence on the man and wildlife and also we’ll speak about weather forecast and climate of different countries.

What is the weather like today?

What is the temperature?



Every day we hear about disasters that happen on our planet. They damage houses, destroy fields, kill animals and people.

1.What natural disasters do you know? Remember and name the words concerning our topic beginning them with the following letters:

E (arthquake), V (olcano), F (lood),

H (urricane), T (ornado), D (rought)

/earthquake / hurricane / tornado / volcano / flood / drought /.



2.Now divide into 3 groups. (Groups A, B, C). Read one of the passages about natural disasters and complete the texts with the words. You have 2 minutes and then be ready to exchange information with other groups. Take the papers.

Group A

Hit, hurricane, leave, destroyed, winds, hour

Hurricanes are very strong ______ that come from the sea. Warm wet air rises in a spiral and goes faster and faster - over 160 km an ______. In 1992, “Hurricane Andrew”_____Florida. The people there had to _____their homes and move to other towns and wait. When the______arrived, it killed 15 people and_______thousands and thousands of buildings. More than 50,000 people had nowhere to live.

Close your eyes, imagine that you are lying in a sunny beach. Light warm wind blows from the sea. The weather is wonderful. The sun is brightly shinning in the sky. The sky is blue and clear. Gulls are flying under the sea. Your mood is good. And everything around you is ok. Open your eyes, please. Let’s continue our lesson.

4. Dear guest, let me say that our boys and girls not only pupils they are also Members of the Belarusian Weather Camp. They want to share with weather forecast of Belarus for tomorrow.

1. In Minsk the average day temperature will range from 5 degrees below zero to 1 degrees below zero. The frosty morning will change into a warm but overcast afternoon . The temperature will fall to 3 degrees below zero in the evening with sleet. Put on a warm coats and caps.

2.The weather in Brest is rather warm. The day will start with a light wind and rain. The temperature will be 1 degrees below zero in the morning. It will rise by 3 degrees by noon and will fall to 2 degrees in the evening. In the evening the weather will become fresh with sleet.

3. In Vitebsk the day will start with sunny intervals and frosty weather. The temperature will be 5 degrees below zero in the morning. In the afternoon the temperature will be 1 degrees above zero without precipitation. The temperature will fall to 3 degrees below zero in the evening.

4. The weather forecast in Grodno will be warm. The day will start with sleet in the morning. The temperature will 1 degrees above zero. In the noon the weather will become dry and the temperature will be 3 degrees above zero. The temperature fall by 1 degrees above zero in the evening.

5. In Mogilev the weather will start with frost bit without precipitation. The temperature will be 4 degrees below zero in the morning but in the afternoon it will rise to 1 degrees above zero. In the evening the weather will become cold with sleet.

6. The weather in Gomel will be cloudy with sunny intervals. The temperature will be 1 degrees below zero in the morning. The temperature will rise to 2 degrees above zero by noon. In the evening the weather will become fresh with light snow and light wind.

Thank you for you weather forecast, but we didn’t say about weather forecast in Soligorsk. Look at the board and try say some words about it.

Winter in Britain was terrible. But in this winter the UK suffered from floods.

7. Now I take you some dialogue and you must do your own dialogue about weather. You have 4minutes.


8.Open your exercise book at the page of 40.

Read the definition of different types of natural disasters and write the names of these disasters.
