Урок в виде виртуальной экскурсии по Лондону с посещением основных достопримечательностей позволит написать письмо родителям на английском языке о виртуальном пребывании в Лондоне.

Цель урока:

написать письмо родителям на английском языке о нашем виртуальном пребывании в Лондоне. Для этого мы совершим экскурсию по Лондону, гидом буду я, а несколько помощников помогут мне провести этот экскурсионный тур.

Итак, Let’s speak English. Hello, ladies and gentlemen! You are welcome to London- the capital of Great Britain. It’s one of the largest cities in the world. About 11 million people live in London. It is more than 2 thousand years old. London’s most famous sights are: Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul’s cathedral, the Tower and Tower bridge, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace parks, museums, Trafalgar Square.

I have a guide- book. There is a map of London’s streets, attractions, the map of London’s underground. There is some information about shopping centers, museums, cafes, restaurants, performances, culture calendar, London’s transport etc.

We start from Trafalgar Square. And my first helper is Mariya.

Mariya: Trafalgar square is situated in the center of London. But it is well- known all over the world. The square is famous for Nelson’s Column. There are four lions at the bottom of the column. You can see lovely fountains and historical monuments in the square. When the weather is fine, Trafalgar square is full of tourists. They take photos, walk around the square and enjoy the sights. In December there is a colorful 50- meters Christmas tree in the centre of the square. It marks the beginning of Christmas and New Year in Great Britain. Different cultural festivals take place in the square. Everyone can take part in the events.

Teacher: Now we are coming Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the houses of Parliament. And my second helper is Beta. She ‘ll tell us about Big Ben and Oleg will tell us about Westminster Abbey.

Beta: Big Ben is really a bell. The bell is over two meters tall and chimes every quarter of an hour. Early in the morning you can hear it on the radio “This is the BBC. The time is six o’clock. ” And then you hear the deep boom of Big Ben six times. The tower of Big Ben is a symbol of London and of Britain.

Oleg: Standing not far from the Houses of Parliament is Westminster Abbey, a symbol of England. The legend says that St Peter founded Westminster Abbey. We know that Westminster Abbey was built by King Edward in 1065. Some famous English people are buried here. Today, Westminster Abbey is a working church and a great monument to the history of England.

Teacher: What is the Houses of Parliament famous for? (карточка!)

Student: The Houses of Parliament is the seat where the British Parliament sits.

Teacher: Do you know how many rooms are there in the Houses of Parliament? (1, 100 rooms)

Now we are at Buckingham Palace. What is Buckingham Palace famous for?

Student: It is the royal palace, the official residence of British Queen. Here we can see the Changing of the Guard. )

Teacher : (карточка!) There are 800 rooms, 52 bedrooms, 78 bathrooms. The Palace has a cinema, a chapel, post office.

Now let’s speak about London’s parks. Lada tells us about them.

Lada: Londoners love their parks and are proud of them. London is very rich in parks and gardens. You can spend the whole day in the country- without leaving London. London’s parks are full of trees, grass, flowers, ponds and small lakes. You can walk among the green trees, relax on a boat in one of the ponds, admire the beautiful flowers and plants or take part in the many activities, such as tennis, swimming and horse- riding. There are eight royal parks in and around London. Four of them are situated in the center of London: Hyde Park, Green Park, St. James park and Kensington Gardens.

Teacher: 1. Which of London’s Parks is the biggest?

Sasha: Hyde Park is the biggest of these four.

T. : 2. Which of London’s parks is the oldest?

S. : St. James’s park is the oldest.

T. : 3. Which of London’s parks is famous for its Speakers’ Corner?

S. : Hyde Park.

T. : 4. Which of London’s park has the statue of a fairytale hero?

S. : In Kensington Gardens, you can see the statue of the famous fairytale hero, Peter Pan.

T. : 5. Which of London’s parks has been home to the zoo for a long time?

S. : Regents Park has been home to the London Zoo.

T. : 6. What are all of London’s parks rich in?

S. : London’s parks are full of trees, grass, flowers, ponds and small lakes.

T. : 7. What do Londoners and tourists like to do in the parks?

S. : You can walk among the green trees, relax on a boat in one of the ponds, admire the beautiful flowers and plants or take part in the many activities, such as tennis, swimming and horse- riding.

Teacher: Now we are going to the Tower and tower Bridge. Irina will tell us about it.

Irina: You can see the Tower of London from the river Thames. The Tower is very old. It has a long and cruel history. It was a fortress, a royal palace, and a prison for important people. Today it is a museum. Special guards look after the Tower and take care of the black ravens that live there. There is an ancient legend that the Tower and Great Britain will fall if the ravens have ever leave the fortress.

Teacher: There are many museums in London: Madame Tussaud’s, Sherlock Holmes, Science Museum. What is M. T. M. famous for?

Arina: It is famous waxworks museum.

Teacher: Whom can you see here?

Arina: Here you can meet famous people: actors, pop singers, sportsmen, writes, poets, scientists.

T. : What can you do in Sh. Holmes Museum?

Denis: Visitors can sit in Mister Holmes armchair, try on his famous cap, hold his pipe, see his violin and his chemistry equipment.

T. : What is Science museum famous for?

Lena: It is famous for its big collection, interesting exhibitions and special activities.

Teacher: now we are going to write a letter to our parents.

Katya goes to the blackboard and writes a letter.

Katya wrote her letter in Russian?- No, Katya wrote her letter in English.

She is staying in London for a week?- No, she is staying in London for two weeks.

Her host family is very hospitable?- Yes, it is.

She hasn’t made new friends at school?- No, she has made new friends at school.
