William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

William Shakespeare was a great English playwright, dramatist and poet who lived during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Shakespeare is considered to be the greatest playwright of all time. No other writer's plays have been produced so many times or read so widely in so many countries as his.(37 plays, many books and poems)              

Isaac Newton (1642-1727)

Was an English physicist and mathematician.He is widely recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time and as a key figure in the scientific revolution.

Daniel Defoe (1660-1731)

Daniel Defoe received education in Newington Academy. He studied Latin, Greek, and later perfected his knowledge during shopping trips to Europe. His first works Defoe wrote in the form of pamphlets. Defoe has been called the father of modern journalism; during his lifetime he was associated with 26 periodicals. However, the most glorified biography of D. Defoe, thanks to its novel «Robinson Crusoe».

James Cook (1728-1779)

James Cook was born on 27 October 1728 in a small village of Yorkshire. In 1755, Cook enlisted in the Royal Navy, serving in North America .

He is famous as the English explorer, navigator, and cartographer. James Cook is famous for his voyages in the Pacific Ocean and his accurate mapping of it, as well as for his application of scientific methods to exploration.

He sailed around the world twice!

Horatio Nelson(1758-1805)

Lord Nelson is the symbol of the nation. He is a British naval commander famous for his numerous victories that made him a national hero. He was one of those men who served their country best during the Great War with France. In his final battle at Cape Trafalgar in 1805 Lord Nelson was mortally wounded. After his state funeral he was buried in the crypt of St.Paul’s Cathedral .On the column in the center of Trafalgar Square there is a statue to Admiral Nelson.

Robert Burns(1759-1796)

The 25 th of January is celebrated by Scots all over the world. It is the birthday of Robert Burns- a famous Scottish poet and a lyricist, who wrote hundred of songs and poems, mainly on country life, love and national pride.

He died in poverty at the age of 37. After his death he is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement and a great source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism.

Joseph Turner(1775-1851)

Joseph Turner, a great romantic English landscape painter, was born in Devonshire in 1775. His first drawings are dated 1787, when he was only twelve years of age. His childish sketch-books, filled with drawings, are still preserved in the British Museum. When he was 21, he began to exhibit oil paintings as well as water-colours at the Royal Academy. The first, «Fishermen at Sea» is now in the Gate Gallery. He traveled much in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy. But he never lost his interest in his own country. As a landscape painter Turner is even called «Light and Colour» Turner died in London in 1851. His pictures and drawings became the property of the British nation. William Turner is considered to be one of the world greatest painters.

Michael Faraday(1791-1867)

Michael Faraday was born at the end of the 17th century. He was interested in electricity very much and spent long months studding this strange force. He discovered that electricity passed from the magnet to the wires and cowbell become a strong electric current. So he opened many laws of electricity and magnetism.

Charles Darwin (1809-1882)

A British scientist who laid the foundations of the theory of evolution and transformed the way we think about the natural world.

Darwin was awarded with numerous awards by academic societies of Great Britain and other European countries.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965)

Sir Winston Churchill-the most brilliant politician of Great Britain, a talented journalist, winner of the Nobel prize in literature, a honorary member of the British Academy of Sciences.

Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977)

Comic and actor, born in London. Chaplin was one of the first media stars of the Twentieth Century. Chaplin moved to Hollywood where he became famous for his silent movies and comic talent.

Agatha Christie (1890- 1976)

Agatha Christie was born in Torquay, Devon, to a wealthy family, has received good education at home. During the First World War, Agatha Miller worked as a nurse in a military hospital, studied pharmacology that she later used in the creation of detective novels. At the same time, in between shifts, began writing detective stories. Christie is known all over the world as the Queen of Crime. She wrote 78 detective novels, 19 plays, and 6 romantic novels. Her books have been translated into 103 foreign languages.

Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013)

Margaret Thatcher was born on October 13, 1925 in Grantham, England. She attended Oxford University from 1943 to 1947 and earned a degree in Chemistry. She married Denis Thatcher in December 1951 and they had twin children, Mark Thatcher and Carol Thatcher. She was the chairman of the Conservative Party 1975-1990.

Margaret Thatcher, the 71-st Prime minister of Great Britain the first and the only woman to hold that title. She was known as the "Iron Lady" for her uncompromising style. All in all, Margaret Thatcher won three elections. She was the longest continuously serving prime minister since 1827. In 1992 Queen Elisabeth II granted her with the title of a baroness. She died at the age of 87.

The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely demanded and most influential band of the rock era.

Sir Elton John (1947-2002)

E.John is an English singer-songwriter, composer and pianist.

Was appointed as Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1995.

For his charitable work, John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II .

Also he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Diana Frances Spencer (1961- 1997)

Her death is still full of mysteries.

She made Boys and girls, men and women all over the world want to be wizards and witches. She wrote the Harry Potter series, rivaling Lord of the Rings as the number one fantasy series in the world.

David Beckham (1975)

Was Born in London. Beckham is a footballer, who is one of England’s most capped players. He won many domestic honors with Manchester United and Real Madrid. He is equally as famous off the pitch due to his show biz lifestyle with his wife Victoria Beckham.

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe (1989)

Daniel is an English actor who rose to prominence as the title character in the Harry Potter film series.

He made his acting debut at 10 years of age in 1999 television film «David Copperfield»

Queen Elizabeth II (1926)

Was Born in London, first daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. She ascended to the throne in 1952.

The second longest serving British monarch and she has been ruling over half a century of the Royal Family, Britain and the Commonwealth.
