Chita City: sights and interesting places.
One of the major cultural centres of the Trabsbaikalia is considered to be freedom-loving Chita. In the city of the exiled Decembrists – peacefully coexist steppe (plain) and the city, Christian and Buddhistic religion. Shumovsky Palace
Built before the First World War the building is in the top of ten beautiful houses not only in Chita but in the region. The architectural style of the Palace is Baroque and classicism. Various ornaments, balconies and cornices adorn the facade of the building. The building has been a shelter for prisoners of war, the Japanese Consulate and a public library. Now it is the house of the local branch of the FSB.
Main post office in Chita is located in a wooden building built at the end of the 19th century. The style of the building is classicism. The Central part is crowned by a small tower that combines two two-storeyed symmetrical wings. The building is painted in yellow-orange color and is decorated with white cornices. Post and Telegraph office moved here immediately after it had been built.
Chita had a private theatre before the revolution, however, when the wooden building burned down, the reconstruction of a new theatre was deposited almost up to the Second World War. And in 1939 Samara theatre moved to the city. It has had an enormous development thanks to work of different famous Directors.
Museum of local lore
Visitors can learn about the rich ancient history of the local tribes. The oldest collection of antiquities from almost 190 thousand exhibits belongs to the Museum, which include not only local cultural values, but also Chinese porcelain and paintings by Russian and European artists. The Museum itself is a monument of architecture.
Art Museum It will be undoubtedly interesting for admirers of painting and for tourists to see a rich collection of paintings. It includes 6,000 works of Art. In the Museum building there are frequent meetings between artists and admirers. A lot of exhibitions and recitals take place here.
