Maslenitsa is one of the most famous ancient folk festivals, which continue to be celebrated to this day. The celebration lasts for a whole week and precedes Lent: on these days, pancakes are baked and an effigy is burned to spend the winter and welcome spring.
Maslenitsa traditions
In ancient times, feasts and festivities were considered the main attributes of the holiday. During the seven days of Maslenitsa, people wanted to have time not only to eat for the future before Lent, but also to have a lot of fun. Therefore, they built snow fortresses, slides and ice rinks, went to visit each other, rode sleds, and also walked and sang songs.
The method of making lace pancakes:
Mix flour with powdered sugar.
Add eggs and milk. The dough should resemble slightly whipped cream in consistency.
Melt the butter and add it to the mixture, and then mix everything again.
Leave the dough on the table for 30 minutes.
Heat a frying pan and grease it with oil.
Pour the dough in small portions, evenly distributing it over the pan .
What not to do during Shrovetide week
To work around the house during the Broad Carnival. From Thursday to Sunday, it's only worth cooking, it's better to give up the rest of the housework.
Don't let the guests in. If someone wants to come to visit, you can't keep them out. At the same time, guests should be received in a clean house and with a rich table.
Cut pancakes with a knife. It was believed that due to the use of sharp objects, trouble could come into the house.
