Конспект урока "Telling the time"

– Hello, boys and girls! My name is Bobby.

– And my name is Tobby. This is our friend Mobby.

– Welcome to our lesson!

– Today we have a guest.

– It’s our friend Julia.

– Hi, boys! I’m happy to see you!

– Hi! We are happy to see you too!

– Julia, what brought you here today?

– Boys, I’ve come to you, because I need your help!

– Oh, okay! And what kind of help do you need?

– Well… Boys, I have some problems with telling the time. Could you help me with that, please?

– Oh, yes, of course!

– Thank you so much, boys!

– You’re welcome

– All right! Now let’s start our lesson.

So today in the lesson we will:

·      learn how to tell the time;

And

·      put the knowledge into practice.

Let’s start!

To ask the time we can use the following questions:

1.    What’s the time?

Or

2.    What time is it?

They both are translated as “Который час?”.

To answer these questions we can use the phrase:

It’s … o’clock.

For example:

It’s one o’clock.

It’s two o’clock.

It’s three o’clock.

It’s four o’clock.

It’s five o’clock.

It’s six o’clock.

It’s seven o’clock.

It’s eight o’clock.

It’s nine o’clock.

It’s ten o’clock.

It’s eleven o’clock.

Or

It’s twelve o’clock.

If we want to show the time of the day, we can use such phrases as:

In the morning

Утром

For example:

In the morning Bruno does morning exercises.

In the afternoon

Во второй половине дня, после обеда

For example:

The boy always reads a book in the afternoon.

In the evening

Вечером

For example:

Bruno usually does his homework in the evening.

At night

Ночью

For example:

The boy goes to bed at night.

Another way to show the time of the day is to use the letters:

A.m.

Or

P.m.

A.m. means “before midday”.

До полудня

And

P.m. means “after midday”.

После полудня

Now look at the following examples and compare them:

It’s seven a.m.

Or we can say:

It’s seven o’clock in the morning.

It’s three p.m.

Or we can also say:

It’s three o’clock in the afternoon.

It’s eight p.m.

Or we can say:

It’s eight o’clock in the evening.

It’s two a.m.

Or we can also say:

It’s two o’clock at night.

– Julia, we’ve told you how to tell the time.

– Now we will listen to the conversation between Miranda and her friends.

– But before we do that, let’s revise some words.

– You’ll need them to understand the information.

– Oh, okay!

– Great! And the words are…

Вставать, подниматься

For example:

April gets up at 6 o’clock in the morning.

Have breakfast

Завтракать

For example:

The boy has breakfast at 7 o’clock.

Обедать

For example:

Jacob usually has lunch at 12 o’clock.

The girl always has supper at 7 p.m.
