The Present Simple Tense

We use the Present Simple Tense when we want to talk about the actions which happen regularly.

For example:

Jennifer washes the dishes every day.

Or

Ella cooks dinner for her family every Sunday.

Now let’s answer the question:

How do we form sentences in the Present Simple Tense?

To form positive sentences we need to put the subject in the first place.

For example:

I, we, you, they

He, she, it

After that we have to put the base form of the verb or the verb with the ending -s or -es.

Look at the examples:

Sofia and Mia drink coffee every morning.

Or

Madison goes to work every day.

To form negative sentences we need to put the subject in the first place.

For example:

I, we, you, they

He, she, it

Then we have to put the words “do” or “does”. After that we need to use the particle “not”. The short forms are: don’t and doesn’t. Then we need to put the base form of the verb.

Look at the examples:

Sofia and Mia don’t drink coffee every morning.

Or

Madison doesn’t go to work every day.

To form questions we need to put the words “do” or “does” in the first place. After that we need to use the subject.

For example:

I, we, you, they

He, she, it

And then we have to use the base form of the verb.
