When do we use the Present Continuous Tense?

We use the Present Continuous Tense when we talk about the actions which are happening now.

Look at the examples:

The girl is skating at this moment.

Девочка катается на коньках в данный момент.

Or

Mr. Green is talking on the phone now.

Мистер Грин разговаривает по телефону сейчас.

Now let’s answer the second question:

What time markers do we use in the Present Continuous Tense?

In the Present Continuous Tense we use the time markers “now” and “at this moment”.

Now – сейчас.

At this moment – в данный момент.

Look at the examples:

Wendy is playing the violin at this moment.

Вэнди играет на скрипке в данный момент.

Or

Richard is reading an interesting book now.

Ричард читает интересную книгу сейчас.

And the last question is:

How do we form sentences in the Present Continuous Tense?

To form positive sentences we need to put the subject in the first place.

For example:

I

He, she, it

We, you, they

Then we need to use: am, is or are. After that we have to put the main verb with the ending -ing.

Look at the examples:

I am running at this moment.

Я бегу в данный момент.

The cow is eating the grass.

Корова ест траву.

The girls are playing with their toys.

Девочки играют со своими игрушками.

To form negative sentences we need to put the subject in the first place.

For example:

I

We, you, they

Then we need to use am, is or are with the particle “not”. After that we have to put the main verb with the ending -ing.

Look at the examples:

I am not running at this moment. (or I’m not running at this moment.)

The cow is not eating the grass. (or The cow isn’t eating the grass.)

The girls are not playing with their toys. (or The girls aren’t playing with their toys.)

 To form questions we need to put am, is or are in the first place. After that we need to use the subject.

For example:

Then we have to put the main verb with the ending -ing.
