First of all, you need to know that the construction “to be going to” is translated as “собираться, намереваться”.
Now let’s answer the question: “When do we use this construction?”
We use the construction “to be going to” to talk about future plans and intentions. Usually the decision about the future plans has already been made.
For example:
Molly is going to buy this beautiful green dress.
Or
Jacob is going to read an interesting book today.
This construction can be used in predictions when there is evidence that something will happen in the near future.
For example:
Look at the clouds! It's going to rain again.
Or
Look out! She is going to break these plates.
Now let’s answer the following question: “How do we form sentences with the construction “to be going to”?”
To form positive sentences, we put the subject in the first place. Then we use one of the forms of the verb “to be”: am, is or are. We use “am” with the pronoun I, we use “is” with the pronouns “he, she, it” and “are” is used with the pronouns “we, you, they”. In the third place we put the word “going”. And after that we use the “to-infinitive”.
For example:
I am going to wash my dog in the afternoon.
My sister is going to sleep the whole evening.
And
My brothers are going to listen to music.
To form negative sentences, we put the subject in the first place, then we use one of the words “am”, “is” or “are” with the particle “not”. In the third place we put the word “going”. And after that we use the “to-infinitive”.
For example:
I am not going to wash my dog in the afternoon.
My sister is not going to sleep the whole evening.
And
My brothers are not going to listen to music.
And to form questions, we put one of the words “am”, “is” or “are” in the first place. Then we put the subject. In the third place we put the word “going”. And after that we use the “to-infinitive”.
For example:
Am I going to wash my dog in the afternoon?
Is my sister going to sleep the whole evening?
And
Are my brothers going to listen to music?
