Today in the lesson we will:

● learn new words;

● revise the verb “have got”;

And

● put the knowledge into practice.

First of all, we will talk about the verb “have got”.

This verb is translated as:

Иметь, владеть, обладать

Now let’s answer the question:

When do we use the verb “have got”?

We use this verb to talk about possession.

For example:

My dad has got a new car.

The verb “have got” is used to talk about relationships.

For instance:

I have got two sisters.

This verb is also used to talk about illnesses.

For example:

My brother has got a headache.

We use this verb to talk about characteristics.

For instance:

I have got brown hair.

Now let’s answer the question:

How do we form sentences with the verb “have got”?

To form positive sentences, we put the subject in the first place. For example:

They

Then we need to put the verb “have” if we use the pronouns: I, you, we, they. And we need to put the verb “has” if we use the pronouns: he, she, it. After that we put the word “got”.

For example:

My parents have got a rabbit.

Or

Lola has got a black cat.

To form negative sentences, we put the subject in the first place. For example:

We

They

Then we need to put the verbs “have” or “has” with the particle “not”. The short forms are “haven’t” or “hasn’t”. After that we put the word “got”.

For example:

My parents haven’t got a rabbit.

Or

Lola hasn’t got a black cat.

And to form questions, we put the verbs “have” or “has” in the first place. Then we put the subject. For example:

After that we need to use the word “got”.

For example:

Have my parents got a rabbit?
