Theme: Would you like some more tea?
The aim: Grammar: Some/any were first introduced in Book Five, but mostly with countable nouns. In this unit there are a lot of uncountable nouns. The use of some in requests is introduced.
How much/How many: There are exercises on How much ...? and How many ...?
Vocabulary: There is quite a heavy vocabulary to do with food, drink and shopping. Some expressions of quantity are introduced.
Pronunciation: The rule of reading of the vowels О and U is revised.
Everyday English: The forms of request and offer are introduced in different situations.

Warm-up
Students read and learn by heart Jazz Chant.
Students listen to the conversation several times.
You could introduce an offer question «Would you like some more tea?» and short answers: «Yes, please. /No, thanks». Modelling them on the board.
Explain the use of «some» in offers and requests and the difference between I like ... and I would like ...
Note: I like expresses «all time» preference.
Would like expresses a preference and request at a specific time.
You could write some sentences on the board and ask students to complete them.
Example: My children have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They ... animals.
There’s a good film on TV tonight.
I ... to see it.
Reading and speaking
Students read the conversation first in open pairs and then in closed pairs.
Pair work
They practise the conversation.
Students read and answer the grammar question.
Speaking
Students offer something to their partners using the words in the boxes as an example given in exercise 4.
Listening and speaking
Students listen and practise the conversation in exercise 5. Check it as a class.
Role play
Students have a conversation in pairs and then they change their roles. It would be a good idea to listen to their conversation as a class.
Speaking
They have a conversation as in exercise 5 using the information.
Students A - a shop assistant.
Students В - a customer.
Pronunciation
Exercise 7 is given to practise the pronunciation of the vowel U in open and closed syllables. Make sure your students remember the rule of this vowel in open and closed syllables. If not, try to explain again. Then practise the pronunciation of the words in the box. In exercise 7 they can also write the words in two columns according to their pronunciation.
Everyday English
Focus students’ attention on the stress and intonation in each dialogue. It would be a good idea to work on each dialogue separately using this procedure.
Complete the conversation.
Check students’ answers.
Listen and repeat it paying attention to the stressed words, pronunciation and intonation.
Ask them to use their own ideas where it’s possible.
Practise it in pairs.
Check it as a class.
Would like/would love
Would like/would love употребляется, когда мы говорим о конкретном времени.

I would like some juice now. would like = 'd like would love = 'd love
