- Good-afternoon to everybody. Good-afternoon to our participants and honorable guests. We are glad to see you all here.
Today we have gathered together here with one but very important aim: to check the knowledge of our ...th form students, but not their common knowledge. We are interested in sport, winter sport in particular, because our English Language Festival is devoted to this season.
There are three teams that will participate in our brain-ring contest. Let’s meet them. They are:
1) The team of ... “A” form;
2) The team of ... “B” form;
3) The team of ... “C” form.

We have got the judges as in all kinds of winter sport. They are…
- …………………………..
- …………………………..

- …………………………..
Now it’s time to introduce the rules of our brain-ring:
There are 15 questions. The teams will choose the question and discuss it for a minute. Then they should give the answer. If there is no one who has raised a hand the teams will have a chance to answer it in the alphabetical order.
Now, look at the screen, please. There are some more rules for the participants:
1. Keep silence
2. Discuss the questions whispering
3. Respect your competitor
Well, I think everybody is ready and it’s time to begin, so let’s find out who will start the brain-ring first. I invite the captains of the teams to come to the table and choose one of the cards with the number. So … team … begins.
The first question is:

5. Each area of this game is equipped with two benches for fined players. Each bench shall be designed for a minimum of 5 players. The minimum length of the bench - 4 meters, width - 1,5 meters. (Hockey)
6. This team sports game is played on the icy ground. Participants of the two teams alternately allowed on the ice special heavy granite projectiles (stones) in the direction marked on the ice target ("house"). It is known that this sport originated in Scotland in the beginning of the XVI century. (Curling)
7. It is sport in which you want as quickly as possible to overcome some distance on the ice stadium in a vicious circle. It is considered as one of the oldest sports. (Speed skating)
8. This sport originated (was born) in Norway, where the custom to compete in the art of riding from the mountains was extended (slalom). Competitions in this sport are conducted in winter and summer season. (Ski jumping)
