Good morning pupils. I am glad to see you all. Take your seats. Today we are going to train your pronunciation, modal verbs, then read the polilogue, answer the questions according to the polilogue and sing the song.

Well, on the previous lesson you studied modal verbs. Your home task was to learn modals, their equivalents and meanings by heart. Let’s check them up. Here are the cards with modal verbs and meanings. You are to match modals with their meanings and each of you must make up 1 sentence with modals. Be attentive. Don’t use the same verbs. So, open your books at page 127, we shall work with the polilogue ‘Sasha and Olga Meet a Russian in Sidney’.

There are some new words in this polilogue. Look at the bottom of the page and read the words after me. You can see the translation here too: to settle, settler, to establish, marine, descendent, grave, ballet-dancer, recipe.

There are some dates in the text, look at the board and read after me: 1804 – eighteen hundred and four; 1878 – eighteen seventy-eight; 1926 – nineteen twenty-six.

Now listen to me I am going to give you an example of reading.
