What is a hobby?
- It is what you like to do when you are not at school. Some boys and girls like photography or drawing, wood carving or growing flowers. Many boys and girls like to make gliders of paper. Girls like to make toys or dresses for dolls.
- Hobbies are your friends when Mother and Father are not at home, or when it is raining. Hobbies help you to learn many interesting things. When you leave school you may take your hobby as a profession.
- Hobby is a favorite occupation of a person in his free time. Hobbies are differ like tastes. If you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste, you are lucky because your life becomes more interesting
- Both grown-ups and children are fond of playing different computer games. This is a new hobby but it is becoming more and more popular.
- Some people like dogs and cats. They take care of their pets and love them a lot. More than that it becomes their business. They join clubs and organizations, exchange their experience and advices.
- Another people like exotic pets, such as snakes, pigs, cocks and hens, spiders and other incekts.
- Gardening is one of the oldest man's hobbies. It is a well-known fact that the English are very fond of gardening and growing flowers, especially roses.
- Making things includes drawing, painting, making sculpture and dolls, designing costumes, handicrafts. Two of the most famous hobby painters were the President of the USA Eisenhower and Prime minister of Great Britain Sir Winston Churchill.Some hobbyists write music or play musical instruments. The President of the USA Bill Clinton, for example, plays the saxophone .
- I have two hobbies. They are singing and playing the guitar. They are my favorite pastime. I am lucky because two of my friends share my hobbies too.

- So both in Great Britain and in Russia children like visiting friends, watching TV and playing computer games. They also like doing sports and have different hobbies. In Russia children like going to the cinema but in Great Britain they don’t.
- Almost everyone collects something at some period in his life: stamps, coins, matchboxes, books, records, postcards, toys. Some collections have no real value. Others become so large and so valuable that they are housed in museums and galleries.
- Many world-famous collections started in a small way with one or two items. Rich people collect paintings, rare books, and other art objects. Such private collections are sometimes given to museums, libraries and public galleries . For example, Pavel Tretyakov gave his collection of paintings to the art gallery and now we can visit a beautiful Tretyakov gallery in Moscow.
- No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has the opportunity of learning much from it. Learning new things can be the most exciting hobby.
