Урок 1. What Do These Signs Mean?

Методическая цель: создание на уроке условий для интеллектуального и эмоционального развития учащихся.

Развивающая цель: развитие способности к сравнению, умозаключению.

Воспитательная цель: воспитание уважительного отношения к природе.

Учебная цель: формирование лексических навыков чтения и говорения.

Речевой материал:

рецептивный: лексический – grass, to keep off, wild;

to damage, to destroy, to disturb, environment, nature, to plant, to pollute, pollution, to protect, to recycle, to reduce, to reuse, to spoil, to throw away, wild life.

Ход урока

1. Warm-up

T: How are you? Are you in a good mood? I have a poem for you. It was written by an American girl. Listen to it and try to guess what mood she is in.

Учащиеся слушают стихотворение в первом предъявлении без опоры на текст и отвечают на вопрос. Затем они прочитывают стихотворение самостоятельно и аргументируют свои предположения примерами из текста.

Я часто ухожу гулять в зеленый лес,

Закат встречаю фиолетового цвета,

Смотрю, как бьется синяя волна о твердый волнорез

И жду от желтенького солнца теплого привета.

С друзьями лазаю по дереву с коричневой корой,

Хочу увидеть красный цвет огня, свет ста свечей как будто,

Любимую песню я пою под розовой луной,

Ем мякоть сочного, оранжевого фрукта.

На небе звезды, облака – все в белом цвете,

В пшеничном поле пляшут золотые волны,

Нет лучше места для меня на свете,

Приятно слушать тишину мне ночи черной.

2. T: Lizzi is in a good mood. What makes her happy? And when are you happy?

Ученики отвечают на вопрос, используя данные на доске опоры:

I’m in a good mood when…

I feel fine when…

….. makes me happy.

St 1: I’m in a good mood when I have holidays.

St 2: I feel fine when I get good marks.

St 3: A nice day makes me happy etc.

3. Brainstorming

T: And I’m absolutely happy when I have a chance to walk in a forest. I enjoy visiting our national park ‘Orlovskoye Polesye’. Have you ever been there? Did you enjoy it? These pictures were taken there. What do you think of watching them? What are your associations?

Дети рассматривают фотографии, сделанные в национальном парке «Орловское Полесье» и говорят о своих ассоциациях. Затем вместо фотографий они получают черные карточки.

T: And what would you think of if everything was black on my photos? What are your thoughts now?

Ассоциации учащихся записываются в Word Web. Положительные и отрицательные ассоциации записываются отдельно.

4. T: We have a guest today and it is very sad and unhappy.

На ладони у учителя ежик.

Have you ever seen hedgehogs in our school? It is here now because it has a very serious problem. Can you guess what kind of problem it is?

Ученики высказывают свои предположения.

St 1: It came here because it’s very cold.

St 2: It is hungry.

St 3: It came because it has no friends.

T: You can find it out if you complete the following sentences:

RSPCA is a charity that….

It helps by V-ing….

За каждое грамматически правильное предложение ученик, составивший его, получает часть слова, которое затем собирается воедино. (Pollution)

5. T: The serious problem of our guest is POLLUTION. What does it mean? Look up in your vocabularies.

Учащиеся находят значение слова в словаре.

T: Do you think that pollution is a great problem nowadays? What makes you think so?

Учащиеся высказывают свое мнение.

T: In Britain you can often come across these international signs. Have you seen any of these signs? What do they mean? Match the sign, its meaning and Russian equivalent. (ex.1.1, p. 74)

Учащиеся подбирают русские выражения, соответствующие английским экологическим знакам.

Keep your country tidy! Береги природу!

Keep off the grass. По газонам не ходить.

Put your litter in the bin! Не сорить!

Keep dogs under control. Выгул собак запрещен.

Recycle! Перерабатывайте отходы!

Respect the life and work of the countryside. Уважай жизнь природы.

6. T: Our word web has two sides. What expressions can we add to both of them?

Учащиеся работают в парах и распределяют слова из упражнения 1.2 в разные колонки Word Web.

What are these signs for? (1.2, p. 74)

St 1: If people keep their country tidy, they protect nature and don’t spoil the environment.

St 2: If people put their litter into the bin, they reduce pollution and do not damage nature.

St 3: If people respect the life and work of the countryside, they don’t disturb wild animals etc.

7. T: Not only signs help to protect nature. What should we do to keep the world tidy?

Учащиеся высказывают свои предложения.

St 1: We should put our litter in the bin.

St 2: We mustn’t throw away litter.

St 3: We must plant trees and flowers etc.

T: Alf from the planet Melmac is worried about a lot of things. He helps children to think about the Earth. What does Alf ask you to do/not to do? (2.1, p.75)

St 1: He asks us to put garbage in a garbage bin.

St 2: He asks us to recycle newspapers, bottles, and metal cans.

St 3: He asks us not to throw away things which we can reuse.

St 4: He asks us not to draw or paint on the trees.

St 5: He asks us not to throw garbage in water.

St 6: He asks us not to cut down baby trees etc.

T: What piece of advice do you follow? Why? (2.2, p. 75)

St 1: I don’t throw garbage in water. It helps not to spoil environment.

St 2: I don’t cut down baby trees. It helps to reduce pollution.

St 3: I never hurt animals. It helps to protect nature.

St 4: I always put garbage in a garbage bin. It helps not to damage nature etc.

8. T: At the beginning of our lesson we wrote our associations. They are united by one topic. You see, the circle is empty. What is the key expression of this unit? It’s ‘Save the Earth’ (‘Help Nature’ etc). The Earth needs our help; our task is to protect it. Here is a song called ‘Hug the Earth’.

T: Our lesson comes to the end, but it is only the beginning of our work on ecological problems. At home you should do ex.4, p. 76. Try to explain some Russian signs for your foreign friends, I’m sure you can do it easily now.
