Introduction.
The popular theme park Disneyland (Disneyland) was opened on July 17, 1955 in the town of Anaheim, south of Los Angeles (California, USA).
On this day, the American "king of animation" and successful businessman Walt Disney (Walt Disney) held a magnificent opening ceremony of a grand amusement park for children (and their parents). ABC broadcasted this event live, the opening ceremony of the park was led by the future US president, actor Ronald Reagan.
The idea of creating a park.
The idea to create a children's amusement park originated with Disney when he was walking with his daughters in the park. While the children were riding on the carousels, the father sat patiently on the bench and waited for the daughters to frolic. During these walks, Walt Disney thought about a park where children and parents could have a good time together. The amusement park was supposed to be a place of rest for the whole family. And then Disney decided to create such a place himself. However, as historians tell us, the Second World War did not allow Disney's plans to come true immediately. Only in 1954, in Anaheim, on the territory of an orange grove of 32 hectares, the construction of a Disneyland began.
Walt Disney personally supervised the development and construction of this park. He wanted to create a place where people of all ages could feel like children.
The Walt Disney Company spent $ 17 million on the construction of the first Disneyland, but very soon all investments paid off tenfold.
The cherished dream of the wizard Walt Disney came true on July 17, 1955, when Disneyland Resort opened its welcoming doors for the first time. Walt Disney put his whole soul into the creation of the park. The imagination of the artist and the enthusiasm of all the creators of the park were embodied in the magical world of cartoons and fairy tales, where Mickey Mouse and his friends live. It was a completely original and unlike anything else park, laid out according to four basic principles: to restore the magical kingdom of Walt Disney cartoons, adding to this a variety of new technical tricks that would give visitors the impression that they, for example, swim through the jungle, or see ghosts in front of them, or sit in a submarine at the bottom of the sea, as well as exciting walks around the neighborhood with a special thematic plan. At the same time, special attention was paid here to safety, courtesy and cleanliness.
At first there were only 16 attractions, the entrance ticket cost $ 1. As now, visitors were greeted at the entrance by Mickey Mouse, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Later they were joined by Pinocchio and Winnie the Pooh.
Disneyland quickly became a U.S. tourist attraction and a favorite family vacation destination. No wonder Disneyland's official nickname is the happiest place on Earth. Guests are greeted by a Walt Disney greeting: "To all who have come to this happy place - Welcome! Disneyland is your country. Here, maturity relives cherished memories of the past, and youth enjoys the challenge and promises of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, dreams and real facts that created America... with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration for the whole world."
Modern Disneyland complex.
The modern Disneyland complex has expanded significantly and covers an area of about 200 hectares.
The park is divided into three zones. The first zone ‑ this is Disneyland Park itself, the symbol of which is the amazing Sleeping Beauty Castle. The second zone is the Disney's California Adventure Park, which opened in 2001, dedicated to the history and culture of the Golden State, and its symbol is the man-made Grizzly Peak mountain, the outlines of which repeat the silhouette of the grizzly bear, a symbol of California wildlife. Simultaneously with Disney's California Adventure, a third zone was opened - Downtown Disney - an entertainment complex with many attractions, with theaters, a 12-hall cinema, shops, restaurants, bars and game rooms.
Guests of Disneyland Resort can chat with real heroes of their favorite Disney animation and feature films and have fun on fantastic rides. The park offers daily parades and fireworks.
Mickey walks through the streets of Disneyland‑Mouse and Donald Duck together with other cartoon characters and accompanied by an orchestra. Monorail, steam trains, horse carts or cable cars, offering a beautiful view of the entire territory, can be found everywhere in the park. And the park itself is amazingly well maintained and clean.
Since its foundation, Disneyland has been visited by more than 500 million guests, including members of royal families, presidents and other heads of state.
Expansion of the park.
The network of Disney parks has expanded and today, in addition to the first Disneyland in Anaheim, there are Disneyworld in Florida (USA), Euro Disneyland in Paris (France), Tokyo Disneyland (Japan) and Disneyland in Hong Kong (China).
