England is the largest ,the most industrial and most densely populated part of the UK. Over 46 million people out of the population of the UK live in England.

The coast of England are washed by the North Sea, the Irish Sea, the English Channel and Strait of Dover.

There are many rivers in England. The longest is the Severn (388 km). The most important is the Thames (354 km).

England is mostly a lowland country. There are upland regions in the north and the southwest, but the rest of England is almost flat.

The Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarchs and the largest existing royal palace in the world. Currently it is the residence of Queen Elizabeth II. The palace was built in 1703.

Gardens of the Buckingham Palace are the largest private gardens in London. A large artificial pond was completed in 1828. At present, thepalace consists of 600 rooms, occupies 20 hectares, of which 17 hectares are the garden .

The palace is a huge picture galereya. It has a swimming pool, a post-office, as well as its own cinema. In the two summer months (August and September), the Queen leaves the Buckingham Palace. In these months the ceremonial chambers of the palace are open to visitors. Setting of  the royal guests in the palace is marked by a special royal flag over the building.
