Here`s your change – says the waiter. How do you think, what does the word change mean? Как вы думаете, что здесь обозначает слово change?

Here change is сдача. Официант говорит: «Вот ваша сдача». And it`s a noun – это существительное.

Look at one more situation:

The girl wants to sit at the window and asks: “Could we change our seats, please?”

Can you guess the meaning of the word CHANGE in this situation? Можете догадаться о значении слова change  в данной ситуации? – It means менять, меняться. Девочка хочет сесть у окна и спрашивает: «Мы не могли бы поменяться местами, пожалуйста?» Here it is a verb – здесь это глагол.

Where can I exchange my pounds for Russian money? Think of the meaning of the word exchange. Подумайте о значении слова exchange.

We can exchange money at an exchange office. Мы можем поменять фунты в пункте обмена валют. So, exchange – обменять – a verb, an exchange office – пункт обмена валют, обменный пункт – an adjective – прилагательное. А обмен денег, валют – is a  noun – существительное.

And the last situation:

Look: Vika is bored. Вика скучает. Her friend says: “Let`s go to the theatre for a change”. Can you guess the meaning here? ‘For a change’ in this case: для разнообразия. Давай сходим в театр для разнообразия. Change here is a noun.

This term we are going to go to England and some English students are going to come to Russia. It`s a students` … (change, for a change, exchange). Choose the correct variant. Of course, ‘exchange’ – обмен. It`s a student`s exchange. Это – студенческий обмен.
