The Bengal tiger is the national animal of India. It is orange with dark brown, grey or black stripes.
Bengal tigers are the biggest cats in the world. They hunt other big animals such as deer, wild boars, wolves, crocodiles and so on. Bengal tigers have big sharp teeth. They are really beautiful animals!
Now let’s talk about Asiatic lions.
Asiatic lions are smaller than African lions. There are only several hundreds of them in the wild and they live in the Gir Forest in India.
The Asiatic lion has got sandy coloured coat. Its mane is shorter and less furry than the African lion’s mane. As a result, its ears are visible all the time.
Asiatic lions usually hunt such animals as wild boars, buffaloes and deer.
They may live up to 16 or 18 years in the wild.
The following animals are elephants. Let’s talk about them!
The Indian elephant is very big and tall. Its ears are smaller than the African elephant’s ears.
Indian elephants eat almost 150 kilos of food every day. They like eating grass, plants, bark and leaves. Elephants use their long trunks to smell their food and lift it up into their mouth. They are really kind and clever animals!
Now we will talk about cobras.
The Indian cobra is a very dangerous poisonous snake with a hood. It can be brown, black, yellow, grey or white.
Indian cobras usually eat other snakes, eggs, rats, birds, frogs and so on. They hunt mostly at night.
The Indian cobra is a good swimmer and excellent climber. It can live up to 30 years.
The following animals are rhinos. Let’s talk about them!
The Indian rhino is a big grey animal that has only one horn on its nose. It can hear and smell very well, but its eyesight is poor.
Indian rhinos like eating grass, but they can also eat leaves, plants and branches of trees. They are active early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
Despite its fat body, the Indian rhino is a very fast animal. It can also swim very well. The Indian rhino usually lives alone and likes to sit in water or mud. It can live up to 45 years.
Now, boys and girls, we will talk about leopards.
Indian leopards are light-coloured animals that have dark spots on their fur. They also have small ears and a long tail. The leopard’s tail plays important role in balancing while running and jumping.
The Indian leopard likes eating deer, wild pigs and even birds. It hunts mostly at night.
Indian leopards are very good swimmers. They can also run very fast.
Leopards are beautiful and elegant animals. They can live up to 17 years in the wild.
Now, everyone, let’s talk about crocodiles.
The Indian crocodile is a medium-sized animal. It has got short legs and a long tail. The Indian crocodile lives in freshwater lakes, ponds, rivers and swamps.
Indian crocodiles are good hunters. They usually hunt fish, birds, snakes, monkeys, squirrels and so on.
