First of all, you need to know that all animals can be divided into 3 groups depending on their tastes:
The first group of animals is called “herbivores”.
It’s translated as “травоядные животные”.
These animals are called so, because they eat only plants such as grass, leaves, tree roots and so on.
The second group of animals is called “carnivores”.
It’s translated as “плотоядные животные”.
These animals are called so, because they eat mostly meat.
There are 4 types of carnivores:
The 1st type is called “predators”. The translation is “хищники”.
They usually hunt and eat their own preys. Prey – добыча, жертва.
The 2nd type is called “scavengers”. The translation is “падальщики”.
They eat animals which they didn’t kill themselves.
The 3rd type is called “insectivores”. The translation is “насекомоядные животные”. Insectivores are called so, because they eat only insects.
And the 4th type is called “piscivores”. The translation is “рыбоядные животные”. These animals are called so, because they prefer to eat fish.
That’s all you need to know about carnivores.
Now let’s discuss the 3rd group of animals. It’s called “omnivores”.
This group is translated as “всеядные животные”.
They can eat plants and meat. Many omnivores change their eating habits during their life cycle.
Now let’s look at the examples of herbivores:
Cows. They eat grass, corn, hay, etc.
Horses. These animals like eating grass, barley, oat and so on.
Goats. They eat shrubs, grains, hay, etc.
Pandas. They prefer to eat leaves, stems and shoots of various bamboo species.
Koalas. These animals like eating eucalyptus leaves. Koalas cannot eat more than three pounds of fresh leaves each day or they will get indigestion. Indigestion - расстройство желудка.
Now let’s look at the examples of carnivores:
Lions. They eat the meat of other animals such as zebras, giraffes and so on.
Tigers. These animals like hunting, so they eat their preys such as wild pigs, goats, bears, etc.

Crocodiles. They like eating fish, snakes, small elephants, etc.
Wolves. They prefer to eat deer, goats, bison and other animals.

Sloths. These slow animals like eating insects, lizards, leaves, etc.
