– Hello, boys and girls! My name is Charlie.
– Hello, dear friends! I’m Kevin. And this is Frankie.
– Welcome to our lesson.
– We are happy to see you!
– Boys, have you got any plans for today?
– No, we haven’t.
– Kevin, have you got any ideas how we can spend this day?
– Oh, yes! I’ve got one brilliant idea! Boys, would you like to see the place where I live?
– Oh, sure! That would be awesome!
– Great! In this case, let’s go!
– Kevin, your mobile phone is ringing.
– Oh, yes, you’re right! It’s my mum. Boys, I need to pick up the phone.
– Sure!
– Hi, mum. Oh, really?! Okay, mum. Bye.
– Guys, my mum has just told me that we are having guests now.
– Oh, okay. In this case, you can show us your house next time.
– Well… I won’t be able to show you the living room, the kitchen and the dining room. But I can show you the bathroom, the laundry room and my bedroom.
– Oh, sounds great!
– Boys, are you sure that you are okay with that?
– Yes, of course!
– We can see the rest of your house next time.
– Oh, I’m so happy to hear that. In this case, let’s go!
So, today in the lesson we will:
● learn new words;
● talk about things in a bedroom, bathroom and laundry room;
● revise the constructions “there is” and “there are”;
And
● put the knowledge into practice.
– Boys, look! This is my house.
– Oh, wow! It’s so beautiful!
– Yeah, I agree! And I really like the colour of your house, Kevin.
– Thank you, boys! Now look! This is my bedroom. This is my bathroom. And this is the laundry room. Now let’s go inside the house!
– Sure!
– Oh, wow! I’m so impressed! Your house is as beautiful inside as it is outside.
– Thank you so much. I’m pleased to hear that! Boys, now we will go upstairs and see the rooms. But before we do that, let’s revise the constructions “there is” and “there are”.
– Sure!
THERE IS
We use this construction with the singular form of the nouns.
For example:
There is a parrot in front of the cage.
THERE ARE
We use this construction with the plural form of the nouns.
For instance:
There are three kittens on the sofa.
Now let’s answer the question:
How do we form sentences with the constructions “there is” and “there are”?
To form positive sentences we put the constructions “there is” and “there are” in the first place. After that we use the singular form of the noun or the plural form of the noun.
For example:
There is a table in the middle of the room.
Or
There are three horses in my garden.
To form negative sentences we put the constructions “there is” and “there are” in the first place. Then we put the particle “not”. The short forms are “there isn’t” and “there aren’t”. After that we use the singular form of the noun or the plural form of the noun.
For instance:
There isn’t a large supermarket in the street.
Or
There aren’t any sweets in the kitchen.
To form questions we need to put the words “is” and “are” in front of “there”. After that we use the singular form of the noun or the plural form of the noun.
For example:
Is there a double-decker bus in the High Street?
Or
Are there three cars in the car park?
– Boys, we have revised the constructions “there is” and “there are”.
– Yes, that’s right!
– Now let’s go upstairs and see the rooms!
– Okay, Kevin.
– Look! This is my bedroom.
– Oh, it’s gorgeous! Can you describe it?
– Yes, of course! My bedroom is about normal size. There is one window in my room. There is also a large bed, a blue armchair, a small chest of drawers, a floor lamp and a bookshelf in my bedroom.
