Let’s start our lesson!
A pronoun is a word or form that we can use instead of a noun or noun phrase.
There are lots of different types of pronouns, but today we are going to talk about such type as personal pronouns.
Personal pronouns – личные местоимения
And they are:
I – Я
For example:
I love learning English!
He – Он
For instance:
He likes eating burgers.
She – Она
For example:
She has a nice voice!
It – Оно
For instance:
This is an apple. It is red.
You – Ты, вы
For example:
Kyle, you are my best friend!
We – Мы

Now, everyone, we will talk about the verb “to be”.
It’s translated as:
Быть, являться, находиться
Now let’s answer the question:
How do we form sentences with the verb “to be”?
To form positive sentences, we put the subject in the first place. For example:
I
He
She
It
You
We
They
Then we need to put one of the forms of the verb “to be” in the Present Simple Tense: am, is or are. We use am with the pronoun: I. We use is with the pronouns: he, she, it. And we use are with the pronouns: you, we, they.
For example:
I am at school now.
Jackson is sad today.
Wendy’s cats are black.
To form negative sentences, we put the subject in the first place. For example:
I
He
She
It
You
We
They
Then we need to use the words am, is or are with the particle not.
Look at the examples:
I am not at school now. (or I’m not at school now.)
Jackson is not sad today. (or Jackson isn’t sad today.)
Wendy’s cats are not black. (or Wendy’s cats aren’t black.)
And to form questions, we need to put the words am, is or are in the first place. After that we put the subject. For example:
I
He
She
It
You
We
They
For example:
Am I at school now?
Is Jackson sad today?
Are Wendy’s cats black?
To give short answers to the questions, we can use one of the following two constructions:
The first construction is:
In the first place we put the word “yes”. After that we use the personal pronoun.
And then we need to put the words “am”, “is” or “are”.
And the second construction is:
In the first place we put the word “no”. After that we use the personal pronoun.
And then we need to put the words “am”, “is” or “are” with the particle “not”.
— Boys and girls, we’ve talked about the verb “to be” in the Present Simple Tense.
— We’ve also learnt how to form sentences with this verb.
