Aim: to improve Sts’ motivation on learning language, sum up the information about hobby, the development of listening and lexical skills.

Plan.

Today we shall play the game ‘Star Hour’. We’re going to have 2 teams. Our topic is “Hobby”. Let’s remember how people usually spend their free time.

I want you to listen to my stories. I will describe different hobbies. You can see the numbers of the hobbies on the blackboard and you will use the cards with the numbers on your desks.

On the blackboard: 1-cooking 2- gardening 3 – sport 4 – reading 5 – collecting

Texts:

This hobby is popular among the people of all ages. People like to go to the stadium or to the sports ground. They are strong and cheerful. Their hobby helps them to develop their mind and body and teaches them to plan their time. (Sport)

People try to find or buy different things such as stamps, badges, coins, pictures, dolls, etc. This hobby helps people to make new friends and to learn some new things about countries and lands, animals and birds, famous people and historical events. (Collecting)

People like to work in the garden and to spend some time in the fresh air. They are fond of flowers, bushes, trees and admire the beauty of nature. (Gardening)

People like to make new dishes. They can present the food nicely and lay the table beautifully. They can boil or fry meat, fish, and chickens and make sauces and deserts. (Cooking)

People like to go to the library. Some of them have a good collection of books at home. They can have different books: fiction, historical novels, books about animals and birds, books about different countries, etc. (Reading)

The next task for you is to make up the long word using the following letters. You will have 2 minutes to do the task. The team that has the longest word will get ‘a star’.

Each team gets 26 cards with the letters.

I will show you some pictures. Your task is to name the hobby that is in the picture (Enclosure).

Raise your hand if you know the answer.

For each correct answer a team gets ‘a star’.

Look at the word ‘Documentary’ on the blackboard. Make up words using only those letters from this word. The team that names more words will get ‘a star’.
