• The youngest of four children. He has a brother and two sisters. He visited the Scottish Presbyterian Church. He studied at prestigious private schools: the Oxford elementary school Dragon School and Eton.

• In 1981 he graduated from Cambridge University (George Selvin College) with a bachelor's degree in the third class in anthropology and archeology. At the university he started to participate in the activities of the amateur theater, where his colleagues were the actors, Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry. With the latter, Laurie will be connected by joint work on stage and on television for many years.

• It was the role of Bertie Wooster, a frivolous aristocrat, who, in the opinion of critics and admirers, most fully embodied the talent and style of the actor. The series was filled with ragtime music performed by Laurie himself (the actor also periodically performs on stage with a rock band).

• For the role of Dr. House in the series "House, M.D." in 2005 and 2006, he was awarded the Golden Globe Award.

• On January 28, 2007, Hugh Laurie received the US Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in the Drama Series.

• In January 2009 he became the winner in the nomination "Favorite drama actor on TV"

• In August 2010, he topped the rating of the highest paid actors in American drama television series
• In 2011, he was included in the Guinness Book of Records as an actor, attracting the largest audience to TV screens

• October 25, 2016 received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
