New Year Summit

Новый год: встреча на высшем уровне

Цели:

практическая: обобщение и систематизация знаний учащихся в рамках проекта «Театр на английском языке»;

образовательная цель: обучение иноязычной культуре, знакомство учащихся с обычаями и традициями стран изучаемого языка, сравнение их с русскими эквивалентами; знакомство с мифами и легендами России и США;

развивающая: развитие воображения, фантазии, творческого мышления; развитие речевых способностей, способности логически излагать, развитие умения сравнивать, анализировать;

воспитательная: инициация понимания иностранных обычаев и традиций и, на этой основе, воспитание толерантности к людям другой культуры.

Оборудование: компьютерные презентации, аудио записи новогодней и рождественской музыки, таблица, другие атрибуты идентичности персонажей.

 ХОД МЕРОПРИЯТИЯ

На начало: стол переговоров с флажками и эмблемами Санты и Деда, надписи "Santa Clause", "Ded Moroz", растяжка с названием Международной организации "Ледяной Поток" (Ice stream), лозунги: "Ничто не растопит лед дружбы между нами" (Nothing will melt the icy monolith of our friendship), "Морозу нашего сотрудничества крепнуть год от года!" (Frost in our cooperation is getting ever stronger!) На экране: название организации и тема встречи Ice stream: New Year Summit, Washington DC

Ученики за партами, учитель за учительским столом, взволнованная Chairlady (Chl) с нетерпением посматривает на дверь. Звонит телефон Chl, она что-то отвечает, подходит к учителю, шепчет ему на ухо, слышны отдельные слова "... тройка, Wisconsin Ave, Rudolph, посадку не дают, трубу ищет".

Учитель: (Ведущей, обеспокоено) А руководство уже здесь? И ТВ на месте? Какой конфуз. (К публике) Извините, уважаемые дамы и господа, непредвиденная задержка вышла, наш ДМ по ошибке сел не в тот автобус, в тройку на Висконсине вместо 31, трафик там напряженный, а Санта трубу ищет, он по-другому не может спуститься. Ну ладно, сейчас все решим. Праздник-то волшебный, как-нибудь все решится.

Звонит по телефону и через мгновение в коридоре раздается звон колокольчиков и появляются ДМ и СК.

Учитель: Ну, что я говорил?

Учитель облегченно вздыхает и занимает место среди зрителей.

Chl: Dear guests, Our international organization The Ice Stream is striving to establish and maintain strong Christmas cross-cultural dialogue between The East and the West. For this purpose we have invited the Heads of corresponding departments - Mr. DM and Mr. SC- to our conference. The participants of today's summit have successfully arrived, and we can begin realization of our agenda. Here are the questions to be discussed (на слайде):

- Status and Citizenship of our guests.

- Place of permanent residence.

- Occupation and hobbies of the Participants.

- Assistants and associates (if any).

Chl: We have received loads of questions lately concerning personal characteristics, ways of life and spheres of activities of these two well known personalities. And no wonder, it's Christmas time. Just to avoid the rumours we decided to get that first hand information from the main heroes themselves. Here they are - meet them and greet them: SC and DM.

SC: Thank you, dear friends, we are always ready to see you and shed the cold luminescent light on any questions that still arise every now and then. It's understandable, we are in public eye for only less than a month every year.

DM: Eh, go ahead with your questions, it's time to dot all the "i's" and to cross all the "t's". We must stand on a crystal clear ice without any cracks or flaws to slide further our red-nosed frost-bitten partnership.

Chl: Thank you, gentlemen, we hope you'll be frank and straight in your stories, just like an icicle of March in Russia.

To begin with, could you dwell upon your origin and place of permanent residence?

SC and DM show their computer presentations about the origin and places of residence of SC and DM. Music.

Chl: Thank you very much, it was some story.

(to public) Have you got any questions? Everything was icy clear and crystal firm. Now you know where to address your letters with the requests for Christmas presents. As well as your New Year resolutions.

(To SC and DM): You've got snowdrifts of work to do to keep the pace with ever growing demands. It's like an avalanche, sweeping everything on its way. I can't believe you have no assistants who help you in all that work.

SC and DM speak about their assistants and show their computer presentations. Music.

Chl: Thank you, granddads, we really enjoyed your stories, and the snow of ignorance has been cleared away bit by bit. Many things are seen much better now as if in the glitter of the North Lights.

I think the ice between you two as well as between your supporters started to grow stronger, and it's a good sign, no doubts. Still I think a bit of festive competitiveness will add to our meeting and your popularity.

DM: Right you are, sweet snow maiden. I'm just wondering how well you folk know Russian New Year and Christmas traditions. I'll start with easy questions.

Do you know any Russian songs and poems related somehow to winter?

Well, I am all ears.

(Ученики-зрители исполняют русские песни и стихи о зиме, НГ: В лесу родилась елочка, Три белых коня, Яблоки на снегу, Однажды в студеную зимнюю пору, Метель, Мороз-Красный нос и т.п.)

DM: Well done, thank you, I feel like I'm in Russia in January, I'm just melting of pleasure.

Chl: Please do not melt too much, we need you in a good shape.

SC: Yes, indeed. (To DM) If you feel like in Russia I'd like to imagine that I'm somewhere in America on Christmas eve.

Chl: Actually, you are in America.

SC: Then could you please me with some winter songs or poems in English? I feel like I'm gonna be home sick soon.

(Ученики-зрители исполняют английские песни и стихи о зиме, НГ: Jingle bells, Silent night, etc.)

SC: Thank you, kids, I feel myself at home now.

Chl: I think our dear guests should be pleased with the worm - I mean bitterly cold welcome of the students. By the way, (to students) have you got any questions to our frosty guests?

SC: And even are ready to help them with answers.
