Not everyone Knows…about interesting facts of Togliatti.

1)Not everyone knows in our country or abroad about our city Togliatti.

It is situated in Samara region on the left bank of the river Volga opposite the Zhiguli mountains with the population about 700 people.

Actually, the history of our city looks like an amazing film with an unpredictable plot.

The destiny of our city does not look like anything else, and it does not always have the name Togliatti.

2)Not everyone knows it began from the fortress of the 18-th century up to the huge plant construction of the XX-th century.

The first name of our city is Stavropol that was chosen by the founder Vasiliy Nikitich Tatischev in 1737. Tatischev , Russian statesman, scientist and historian chose the place for the fortress in the capital of baptized Kalmyks.

1)Not everyone knows name Stavropol was changed into Stavropol-on the-Volga because in 1777 in the Caucus the other city was named as Stavropol.

2)The great changes began In the beginning of 50-s years of the XX century. The Soviet government decided to use the power of the Volga and build a hydropower station on the area of Stavropol-on the Volga and the village Otvazhnoe (now it is town Zhigulyovsk). It was the great event of the century.

1)But Not everyone knows that it changed the life of the town. All citizens had to leave their homes and native places where they were born and moved to another places which were called Portposelok and poselok Shlyuzovoy. And in spring of 1953 all town went under the water.

2)So, in Portposelok and poselok Shlyuzovoy houses were built and some plants such as Sintezkauchuk and Kuibyshev Phosphorus Plant and later Nitrogen Plant that played an important role in development of new town with the same name Stavropol-on the Volga. Our town developed in the chemical sphere and then became the leader of the World Industry.

1)Not everyone knows that in 1964 Stavropol-on the-Volga was changed for the third time thanks to the city workers. That year a leader of Italian Communists Palmeiro Togliatti passed away.

2)In the second part of the 60-s 190 places in the USSR were claimed to build there an Automobile Plant. But only Togliatti was chosen. A lot of people from all exrepublic of the USSR moved to our city to build the Volga Automobile Plant and to live there. Simultaneously, in town the new district was build with unique infrastructure in each block.

1)Not everyone knows on the 19-th of April in 1970 the first car “Zhiguli”( the legendary Kopeika)was produced. Now many people associate our city with the Volga Automobile Plant.

2)We proud that we were born in a such beautiful place and unique history of origin. And we would not want to change our motherland or have a different history.
