Lesson Plan
Grade: 5B
Theme: Do you have a hobby ?
Time: 45 min.
Objectives:
Educational: to learn about hobbies and grammar structures related to the topic;
Developing: to enable PP to speak, to develop thinking and speaking skills;
Upbringing: to raise awareness of the variety of hobbies according to age and people’s interests; the importance of having hobbies and to help PP understand that waste time never gained.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the lesson PP will be able to:
Know about the various kinds of hobbies according to age and people’s interest;
Talk about their hobbies;
Differentiate indoor and outdoor hobbies, dangerous and safe hobbies; the importance of having hobbies and its possible influence to their future career.
Type of the lesson: non-standard, mixed, consolidating
Methods of the lesson: Nontraditional, case study, CLL,interactive
Interaction: individual, group work, frontal.
Equipments: laptop, screen, speakers, pictures, cards, swatters, BB, worksheets, handouts, ppt presentations on hobbies.
Presentation of the lesson:
Pre – stage
Activity 1. Organizational moment.
-Greeting: Teacher: -Good afternoon, dear PP.
Pupils: - Good afternoon, teacher.
T: - How are you today? Are you so-so?
PP: -Noooo
T: - Are you not so well?
PP: -Noooo
T: -Then how are you?
PP: -We are fine thank you! And you?
Teacher also answers so-so, not so bad while PP refuse to accept these answers. But when T says –I am great! PP shout –Yeeeeeees!
Each question is followed by this method.
-Checking up the register;
-Checking up the homework: Teacher gives questions on the topic of the previous lesson and recieves answers from volunteers:
Questions: 1. What did we talk about and learn in our previous lesson? (Possessive Pronouns)
2. What can you say about its forms? (1st and 2nd form)
3. Can you name the 1st/2nd form of Possessive Pronouns? (my, your, his/her, its, etc)
4. Tell me, please about the usage of the forms? When do we use the 1st form and when the 2nd one ?
Activity 2. Teacher gives the structure to make up sentences putting the appropriate form of the Possessive Pronouns both on the screen and the BB in order to check PPs’ comprehension:
This is ... book. The book is ... .
PP make up sentences one by one.
While – stage
Activity 1. Introduction to the theme: Asking general questions.
T: Now my dears, do you know what hobby is? What can you say about it? First ask weaker PP to express their opinion even if they speak in L1. After ask the definition of the word “hobby” in English.
Possible answers:
-hobby is what we like to do in our free time;
-hobby is our favourite occupation;
-spending time meaningfully, etc.
Demonstrating the PPT prepared by the T on the new theme.




Activity 2a. Telling brief information moving down the slides. Hobbies related to music, sport and culture. Teacher pronounces, PP repeat. Work on the correct pronunciation of the words.
Activity 2b. Spelling activity.
T shows the typed and printed hobbies one by one, PP read and spell:

S-I-N-G-I-N-G S-W-I-M-M-I-N-G
D-A-N-C-I-N-G R-U-N-N-I-N-G
C-O-O-K-I-N-G P-L-A-Y-I-N-G F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L, etc.



Activity 2c. Miming.
1 by 1 they go to the BB and mime the hobbies that T shows them on the cards, others guess and say.
Activity 3. T asks PP to focus their attention on the screen and tells more information about the types or variety of hobbies.
1.Hobbies for active and passive people;
Hobbies according to age:
Small children’s hobbies: collecting cars, dolls, planes, toys. Here T asks to remember the song about toys and asks to sing it together;
Teenagers’ hobbies. T first explains that teenagers are PP of their age and then asks upper grades teenager PP to go to the BB (as they were asked to bring something related to their hobbies) and tell the group about their interests;
Adults’ hobbies: carving, knitting, sewing, skiing, surfing, etc;
Lonely and old people’s hobbies: usually keeping pets like cats, dogs, hamsters and the like;
3.Dangerous hobbies: deep cave diving, big wave surfing, high jumping, etc.



Here T asks PP to pay attention that these kinds of hobbies are not safe and they shouldn’t try to repeat them on their own as dangerous
hobbies are to be taken up and practised only in the case that they should be well prepared physically.
Activity 4. Physical activity for fun. Play “Hobby salad” T asks PP to come to the centre of the classroom and make a big circle. Gives them the names of hobbies, PP should keep the hobby in their minds. When T utters e.g. playing football-only those who were given the name of the hobby should change their places.
Activity 5. Chain Drill. T asks PP to look at the screen and gives the srtructure to answer the question “What’s your hobby?”:
Subject + enjoy/like + Verb ing
They put down the structure and write one sentence according to this structure first. Chain Drill is arranged with the help of the ball.
Post-stage
Activity 1. Explain what indoor and outdoor hobbies are.
Play “Run and tap”. PP stand in two rows. T says one hobby and determining wether it is an in- or outdoor hobby, they should run and tap the happy smile (if it’s outdoor) or the sad smile if the hobby is considered to be the indoor one.
Activity 2a. Matching activity. The 2 groups are given a worksheet on which they should match the hobby and its right definition.

The first group to finish and fulfil the task correctly gets the ball.
Activity 2b. There are 2 trees on hung on the BB. On 1 side of the tree are sticked the sentences. Under the tree there are mixed pictures. 1 by 1 they go to the BB, read the sentence and finding the right picture stick it opposite the sentence.
Activity 3. Doing crossword on the screen. For each group is given the mouse, they should find the word and underline it.
Activity 4. Summing up the lesson. Counting gained balls and determining the winner team. Praising and giving pens as presents.
Activity 5. Giving homework: To write and retell about “My hobby”.
