UNIT 1 AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN

DESIGN PROCESS

At Mason, our artists have crafted the most progressive car designs for two decades. Our design process is simple but elegant. We start with a simple concept sketch. A sketch helps us plan an overall vision for the project and gives us direction for the exterior design. At the same time, another team of designers begins work on the interior design. They craft the inside environment of the car to match the appearance of the outside. Another key part of the process is the colour and trim design. There are often several colour schemes for each design. Finally, the graphic design team crafts the logo, badges, and other text-driven graphics.

Then, it’s time to see the design in real space. After extensive research and discussions, we move on to clay modeling. Our artists use CAD programs to design the shape and contour of a car with class A surfaces. At this point, we also create a scale model of the car.

After another team completes the powertrain modeling, we are ready for the prototype. This is handled by an outside firm. Once the car passes a series of tests, it is ready for market.
