Indefinite articles: a/an a: before the words which starts with the consonant sounds. Ex: a b ook, a m ap, etc. an: before the words which starts with the vowel sounds. Ex: an a pple, an h o ur (“h” is not pronounced), etc.

Plurals: ways of forming plurals By adding -s to the stem of the word. It is pronounced in different ways:  [ız] after sibilants: horse – horses, bridge – bridges, nose – noses, etc. [z] after voiced consonants and after the vowels: flower – flowers, bed – beds, dove – doves, boy – boys, etc. [s] after voiceless consonants: cap – caps, book – books, hat – hats, etc.

If the noun ends in -y preceded by a consonant, then -y is changed into -ies Examples: army – armies, lady – ladies, fly – flies, etc. 4. If the noun ends -y proceeded by a vowel, then the plural is formed by simply adding -s to the stem  Examples: day – days, play – plays, key – keys, boy – boys, toy – toys, monkey – monkeys, etc.

3. If the noun ends in -y preceded by a consonant, then -y is changed into -ies

4. If the noun ends -y proceeded by a vowel, then the plural is formed by simply adding -s to the stem Examples: day – days, play – plays, key – keys, boy – boys, toy – toys, monkey – monkeys, etc.
