Weather"

Hello, boys and girls! My name is Bobby.

And my name is Tobby. This is our friend Mobby.

Welcome to our lesson.

Today we have a guest.

It’s our classmate Liam.

Hi, guys! I’m so glad to see you.

Liam, we are glad to see you too!

Guys, today I came to you because I want to ask you one question.

Oh, really?! Sounds interesting!

Liam, you can ask your question! And we will answer it.

Okay! Boys, what is the first thing you do in the morning?

Well, I usually wash my face. Guys, what about you?

I usually have breakfast.

And I brush my teeth.

Liam, what about you? What is the first thing you do in the morning?

Well… As for me, firstly I look out of my window to see what the weather is like today.

Oh, that’s interesting. Could you tell us, please, why it’s the first thing you do?

Guys, the answer is very simple. The weather always tells me what clothes to put on and what games to play with my friends today. It’s extremely important for me.

Oh, we never cared about the weather.

Yeah! We don’t even know how to describe it.

Guys, if you want, I can tell you how to describe the weather.

Oh, sure! We will be happy to learn new information.

All right. Let’s start.

As you can understand, today in the lesson we will:

learn the definition of the term “weather”;

discuss how to describe the weather;

learn new words;

And

put the knowledge into practice.

First of all, you need to know that weather is a word that people use to describe the temperature or conditions outside.

For example:

The weather is snowy today.

Or

The weather was rainy two days ago.

Guys, do you know what can help us to predict the weather?

No, Liam, we don’t!

Okay. In this case, I’ll tell you!

Lots of people use thermometer to predict the weather.

Boys, do you know what a thermometer is?

No, Liam, we don’t.

Could you tell us, please?

Yes, of course!

Thermometer is a tool which helps to measure temperature inside or outside.

Inside – внутри помещения.

Outside – снаружи.

That’s how it looks like…

Do you see the letter “C” on this thermometer?

Yes, we do!

Liam, what does it mean?

Well… The letter “C” together with this small round symbol in front of it means degrees Celsius. Long time ago there lived an astronomer. His name was Anders Celsius. In 1742 he proposed the Celsius temperature scale.

Now look at the thermometer. This is its scale. These lines and numbers show us how warm it is today. To understand what temperature it is now, we have to count these lines. So, what temperature is it now? Let’s count.

Fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty. So, it means that it’s twenty degrees Celsius at this moment.

Guys, I’ve told you what we can use to predict the weather.

Yes, that’s right, Liam!

Now we will learn new words together.

Liam, what words are you talking about?

Guys, I’m talking about the words which we can use to describe the weather.

Oh, okay. Sounds interesting!

And the words are:

Sunny

The translation is “солнечный”.

For example:

It was a bright, sunny day.

Windy

This word is translated as “ветреный”.

Let’s look at the example:

It's too windy for a picnic today.

Cloudy

The translation is “облачный”.

Look at the example:

The night was cool and cloudy.

Rainy

This word is translated as “дождливый”.

For example:

It was a rainy day, so we decided to stay at home and watch TV.

Cold

The translation is “холодный”.

Let’s look at the example:

The weather is cold and snowy today.

Hot

This word is translated as “горячий, жаркий”.

For example:

It was really hot outside, so we went for a swim.

Boys, we’ve just learnt new words which you can use to describe the weather.

Now let’s revise all the words once again.

Listen and repeat after me.

Sunny

Windy

Cloudy

Rainy

Cold

Hot

Thank you, Liam! Now we know how to describe the weather.
