Конспект урока "Identifying and describing people"

— Hello, boys and girls! My name is Kyle.

— Hello, everyone! My name is Sophia.

— Hello, friends! I’m Melanie.

— Hello! I’m Jackson.

— Welcome to our lesson!

— We are happy to see you!

Today in the lesson we will:

● talk about the possessive case;

● learn new words, which we can use to describe and identify people;

And

● put the knowledge into practice.

First, we will talk about the possessive case.

It’s translated as “притяжательный падеж”.

Now let’s answer the question:

When do we use the possessive case?

We use the possessive case to express that something belongs to someone.

For example:

This is Amber’s bedroom.

It is used to show a relationship between two or more people.

For instance:

Kate’s sister is so beautiful!

The possessive case is also used with the names of shops.

For example:

My mum was at the baker’s this morning.

You also need to know that the possessive case answers the question:

Whose?

The translation is:

Чей?

Look at the examples:

Whose sweater is this?

This is Kevin’s sweater!

Or

Whose skirt is this?

This is Sophia’s skirt!

Now let’s answer the question:

How do we form the possessive case?

Singular nouns form their possessive case by adding the apostrophe (’) and the letter “s” to the noun.

For example:

The girl’s doll

The possessive case of plural nouns ending in -s is formed by adding only the apostrophe (’) to the noun.

For instance:

The boys’ books

Plural nouns that do not end in -s form their possessive case by adding the apostrophe (’) and the letter “s”.

For example:

The children’s toys

If the possessive pattern consists of two or more nouns which form a single group, we need to add the apostrophe (’) and the letter “s” to the last word only.

For instance:

Mary and Tom’s wedding

The possessive case of the nouns that do not form a single group is formed by adding the apostrophe (’) and the letter “s” to both nouns.

For example:

Mary’s and Tom’s cars

— Boys and girls, we’ve talked about the possessive case.

— Now we would like to check your knowledge.

Rewrite the sentences using the possessive case!

The dress of Daisy is beautiful.

The books of the boys are on the table.

The house of Christopher is new.

The family of Henry and Julia is very big.

The cars of Blake and Lily are new.

The teacher of the children is funny.
