Конспект урока "Indefinite pronouns some and any"

– Hello, boys and girls! My name is Bobby.

– And my name is Tobby. This is our friend Mobby.

– Welcome to our lesson.

– Today we have a guest.

– It’s Mr. White.

– He is our postman!

– Hello, Mr. White!

– Hello, boys!

– Mr. White brought us a letter.

– It’s from Majesty.

– Guys, who is Majesty?

– Oh, I don’t know!

– Me neither!

– Yeah! We don’t know any Majesty, Mr. White.

– Guys, my task was to bring you this letter. That’s all!

– Oh, you’re absolutely right! Thank you so much.

– You’re welcome! Bye, boys!

– Bye, Mr. White.

– Guys, I think we should read the letter!

– Oh, I agree! If we read this letter, we will find out who Majesty is.

Find out.

The translation is “узнавать, выяснять”.

– Boys, that’s a brilliant idea!

– All right! Let’s start reading it.

“Hello, Bobby, Mobby and Tobby. This is a lion. My name is Majesty. I’m writing you, because I need your help. My friend Pixie said that you are very good and kind boys. So he advised me to write you a letter and ask for help. Boys, in two days I’ll have a final test. I have already revised all the rules, which I need to know to pass this test. But last week when I was ill, our teacher explained a new rule to my classmates. And I missed that lesson. The rule was connected to the indefinite pronouns “some” and “any”. And as a result, I know nothing about them now. Guys, could you explain this rule to me, please? If you don’t do that, I will fail the test. I really count on you. Can’t wait to get your response letter. Many thanks, in advance, for your help!

Best wishes, Majesty”

– Boys, we have to help Majesty!

– Yes, I agree with you.

– Me too! Boys, let’s write the response letter and invite Majesty to our place.

– Oh, that’s a wonderful idea!

– Let’s do that!

“Hello, Majesty! We’ve got your letter. And we will help you with a great pleasure! Come to our place tomorrow. The address is 25 Gold Street. We will tell you everything you need to know about the indefinite pronouns “some” and “any”.

Best wishes, Bobby, Mobby and Tobby”

Now I think you understand that today in the lesson we will:

·      learn the definition of the term “an indefinite pronoun”;

·      talk about the indefinite pronouns “some” and “any”;

And

·      put the knowledge into practice.

– Hello, Majesty!

– Hello, boys! I’m so happy to meet you!

– Majesty, we are happy to meet you too!

– All right! Let’s come inside the house!

– Oh, sure. Thank you!

– Majesty, are you ready to listen?

– Yes, of course!

– Great! In this case, let’s start our lesson.

And first of all, let’s answer the question:

What does the term “an indefinite pronoun” mean?

An indefinite pronoun is a pronoun that doesn’t refer to a specific person, place or thing. It’s translated as “неопределённое местоимение”.

Look at the examples:

There are some letters on the shelf.

На полке несколько писем.

Or

I found a taxi without any trouble.

Я нашла такси без каких-либо проблем.

(As you can see, in the first sentence we used the indefinite pronoun “some”. And in the second sentence we used the pronoun “any”. Now let’s talk about each of them in detail.)

And we will start with the pronoun “some”.

It’s translated as “несколько, немного”.

Now let’s answer the question:

When do we use the indefinite pronoun “some”?

1. We use it with uncountable nouns in positive sentences.

Мы используем его с неисчисляемыми существительными в утвердительных предложениях.

For example:

There is some butter in the fridge.

2. The pronoun “some” is used with countable nouns in the plural form in positive sentences. Местоимение “some” используется с исчисляемыми существительными во множественном числе в утвердительных предложениях.

Look at the example:

There are some bananas on the table.

And

3. “Some” is also used in questions when we want to make a request. “Some” также используется в вопросительных предложениях, когда мы хотим обратиться с просьбой.

For example:

Can I have some coffee, please?

The following pronoun we will talk about today is “any”.

It’s translated as “сколько-нибудь, любой, какой-либо”.

Now let’s answer the question:

When do we use the indefinite pronoun “any”?

1. We use this pronoun with countable and uncountable nouns in negative sentences. Мы используем это местоимение с исчисляемыми и неисчисляемыми существительными в отрицательных предложениях.

Look at the examples:

There aren’t any vegetables on the plate.

Or

There isn’t any lemonade in the glass.

And

2. “Any” is also used with countable and uncountable nouns in questions.

“Any” также используется с исчисляемыми и неисчисляемыми существительными в вопросительных предложениях.

Look at the examples:

Are there any salads on the table?

Or

Is there any honey in the glass jar?

– Majesty, we’ve talked about the indefinite pronouns “some” and “any”.

– Yes, that’s right, boys!

– Now we would like to check your knowledge.

– Oh, sure!

– Great!

And your task is to complete the sentences with “some” or “any”.

And the sentences are:

1. We don’t need … flour.

2. There is … milk in the fridge.

3. Have you got … chocolate?

4. Are there … eggs in the fridge?

5. Can I have … water, please?

And

6. There aren’t … oranges on the table.

Let’s check the right answers.

1. Any

2. Some

3. Any

4. Any

5. Some

And

6. Any

– Well done, Majesty!

– Now you know everything about the indefinite pronouns “some” and “any”.

– Boys, it’s true! Thank you so much for your help!

– You’re welcome!

– That’s all for today, our dear friends.

– We hope that the lesson was interesting and useful for you!

– See you soon, boys and girls.
