— Hello, boys and girls! My name is Kyle.
— Hello, everyone! My name is Sophia.
— Hello, friends! I’m Melanie.
— Hello! I’m Jackson.
— Welcome to our lesson!
— We are happy to see you!
Today in the lesson we will:
● learn the definition of the term “articles”;
● talk about the indefinite articles a, an;
● learn new words and revise the old ones;
And
● put the knowledge into practice.
Let’s start our lesson!
Articles are the words that define a noun as specific or unspecific.
There are two types of articles:
Definite (определённый)
And
Indefinite (неопределённый).
The definite article is the word the.
The indefinite article has two forms: a and an.
And today we are going to talk about the indefinite articles a, an!
Let’s start!
The indefinite article “a” is used in front of singular countable nouns that begin with a consonant (b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y or z).
For example:
A dog
A frog
As you can see, the word DOG begins with the consonant D and the word FROG begins with the consonant F. That’s why we need to use the article A in front of them.
The indefinite article “an” is used in front of singular countable nouns that begin with a vowel (a, e, i, o or u).
For example:
An apple
An egg
As you can see, the word APPLE begins with the vowel A and the word EGG begins with the vowel E. That’s why we need to use the article AN in front of them.
