City life: a teen gives his opinions

What do you think of your city, David?  It’s OK. I like living here, but there are plenty of things that could be improved.

What do you like about the city?  The best thing is that there are lots of green spaces. I like cycling, so it’s good to have places where I can ride my bike safely.

Do you ever cycle in the city centre?  No, never – there are too many cars and buses. It would be good if the amount of traffic in the city centre could be reduced, but I don’t think that will happen. There are a few people who only use public transport, but most people love their cars!

Apart from the traffic, what don’t you like about the city?  The main problem is that there aren’t enough things for young people to do. I’ve heard that a skatepark might be built sometime – that would be brilliant, but it hasn’t happened yet. We need somewhere to listen to music, too. In the summer, there are free concerts in the park, which is great, but we need a place where we can see live bands the rest of the year. In my opinion, a music venue should be built in the city centre.

What else could be improved?  There are some good leisure facilities, but they’re too expensive. For example, there’s a fantastic modern sports stadium which was built two years ago, but tickets cost £25. That’s too much for most young people.

What other leisure facilities are there?  There’s an old swimming pool in my neighbourhood, but that’s closed at the moment. They’re renovating it, and work will be finished in a few weeks. I haven’t seen the new pool, but I’ve been told it’s cool and modern. I’m really looking forward to going there.
