Good morning to everybody. Nice to see you and our guests. Dear friends! Welcome to our lesson «How different the world is!» It is special because it is held in a form of an international meeting. We have groups for presentation their countries. They brought their projects to demonstrate you.

2. Речевая подготовка.

But at first we’ll do a crossword.

1. What is the political centre of London?

2. Listen to the song and guess its title.

3. What is the largest part of the UK?

4. What is the biggest city in Britain?

5. What is the capital of Wales? Cardiff

Turn over and name the proverbs.

Worse early than always. (Better late than never).

North or South – school is worst. (East or West – home is best). Try to explain the last proverb.

There are a lot of beautiful countries, but as for me Russia is the most beautiful country, because I was born here. East or West – home is best I can’t imagine my life in another country without Russian friends, the Russian language, Russian frost and Russian cookery…

But you will not only listen. To each of you I’ll give a card. Youк task is to choose the correct answer. We shall hear about Russia, Great Britain. But don’t forget about their task. At the end of the lesson we’ll see what you know new about these countries.

Russia is the largest country in the world. About 150 million people live here. It washed by a twelve seas: the Barents, Chukchee, Laptev, White Seas the Bering Sea, the Sea of Japan, the Okhotsk Sea, the Baltic Sea and 3 oceans, such as the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Arctic. It borders on China, Mongolia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Norway, Finland, the Ukraine the Baltic States, Byelorussia. 

It covers the eastern part of Europe and the northern part of Asia. It has a sea border with the USA and Japan. Russia is rich in rivers and lakes. The Volga is the longest river in Europe. The main Siberian rivers are the Ob, the Yenisei and the Lena. Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world. The water in the lake is so clear, that you can count the stones on the bottom. The land of Russia varies greatly. We have thick forests and vast plains, high mountains and deep valleys. 

Russia is very rich in oil, coal, natural gas and other mineral resources. There are various types of climate in Russia, from arctic in the north to subtropical in the south. We, people living in Russia, love our country and are proud of it.

And now you should present your projects. Let’s begin with the first group.

The UK is the official name of the British Kingdom. It is an island state. It consists of four countries. They are England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The south and the east of the island consist of flat plains or hills. Mountainous areas are found only in the north and west.

The chief rivers of Great Britain are: the Avon, the Thames and some others. There many lakes in Great Britain. The coasts of England are washed by the North Sea, the Irish Sea, the English Channel and the Strait of Dover. In this country you are never very far from the coast and there are lots of seaside resorts.

The climate of Great Britain is mild and weather changes very often. It is never very cold or very hot. Britain is famous for its fogs. . Landon is the capital of the whole UK. The population of London is more than 9 million people. The main passenger ports and airports are in the Southeast. It is a rich country, one of the richest in the world.

London is one of my favourite cities. As you know it is the capital of the UK. It is rich in places of interest. I think it is interesting to see the Tower of London.

Of course, it’ll be interesting to see London’s most famous sights: Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Hours of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and St. Paul’s Cathedral. I want to see all these places.

Especially I want to see Trafalgar Square.

Nothing can beat it! Trafalgar Square is located in the centre of London. The highest point here is the column with a statue of Admiral Nelson who defeated the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. To the left we can see the National Gallery. It has a fine collection of European paintings.

The Gallery was designed by William Wilkins and build in 1834 -1837. The collection covers all schools and paintings of Rembrandt’s pieces. As for me it’ll be interesting to see his paintings. You see Rembrandt is my favourite artists. He was born in Leiden in 1608. The biblical theme was very important to Rembrandt. In 1669, the year of his own death, he painted his famous

«Return of the Prodigal Son». He created a number of portraits. It is a pity Rembrandt was not understood when he was alive.
