Topic: « A tour round London».
Aim: 1) to practice pronunciation of words to describe the city;
2) to develop monologucal and dialogucal skills using active vocabulary of the topic;
3) to practice the use of Present Indefinite Tense;
Equipment: a map of Great Britain, cards, photos, pictures of London.
Виховна мета: виховувати любов до країни, мова якої вивчається.
Хід уроку
1. Підготовка до сприйняття іншомовного мовлення.
T: Good morning children!
Ch: Good morning, good morning,
Good morning to you,
Good morning, good morning,
We are glad to see you.
T: Thanks children! Take your seats. I’m also glad to see you again. How are you feeling today Natalia?
N: I’m good. How are you Sergei?
S: I’m well. How are you Alyona? Etc.
T: I’m very glad that you are fine. What is your mood? There 2 cards on your desks. Show me what is your mood (is it good or bad).
T:Tell me please what day is it today?
N: It is Thursday, the 21-st of February.
T: So children it is winter. It is cold and frosty outside. As for me I like such weather because it is not raining and the wind is not blowing. And what about you Alexander?
A: To my mind the weather is good. I think so because it is winter, it is cold and the sky is blue.
T: and what about you Vova?
V: I think the weather is good because it is not foggy and it is not raining.
T: Kate, what about you?
K: Unfortunately the weather is bad because it is cold and the birds are not singing.
T: Is the wind blowing Sergei?
S: Yes it is blowing (no it isn’t).

T: So children we have described the weather today. Well done. So today’s our topic is “A tour round London”. Before we’ll start to speak about London- the capital of Great Britain, lets revise the words from the previous lesson according to our today’s topic. Repeat after me.

T: We have repeated all these words. Lets work in groups now. Natalia, Sergei, Alexander go to the blackboard. The other pupils do the exercise one. You have to match the right word. Then we’ll check up it.

T: London has a lot of places of interest. Which of them would you like to visit?
P1: - I’d like to visit the Tower of London.

P3: - I’d like to visit Hyde Park.
T: OK children, lets imagine that we are in London now. Alexander, Sergei, Sergei, Ivan, Valya, Kate, Natalia go to the blackboard and make up the description of London using the map of Great Britain and pictures with photos. Klava and Alyona construct the questions using the Present Indefinite Tense.

P1: London is the capital of Great Britain. The city is very old and beautiful.
P2: The population of London is more than 9 million people.
P3: London is situated on the river Thames.
P4: London is divided into: the City, the Westminster, the West End and the East End.
P5: There are a lot of places of interest in London.
P6: There is the House of Parliament with Big Ben.
P7: There is Westminster Abbey where all the kings and queens of Britain were crowned and buried.
P8: One of the nicest squares in London is Trafalgar Square.
P9: In the Westminster you can see Buckingham palace where the queen lives.
P10: The East End is an industrial district of London.
P11: There are many museums, libraries and galleries in London.
P12: The Tate Gallery is one of the well-known in London.
P13: The British Museum is a very interesting place with a lot of books.
T: Well done. Alyona and Klava, are you ready with your questions?
Alyona: What is the capital of Great Britain?
P1: - London is the capital of G. B.
Klava: Does London stand on the river Dnipro?
P2:- No, it does not. London stands on the river Thames.
Alyona: What is the population of London?
P3:- The population of London is more than 9 million people.
Klava: Is London divided into 4 parts?
T: Thanks. Good. Take your seats. Lets work with the text number two. The task is to read and to understand it. After reading do the exercise 3. The task is to complete the sentences. (5min).

T: And now imagine that some of you are in London and some in Ukraine. So try to make up dialogue between themselves. For example, Natalia is in Donetsk. Sergei is in London.
S.: - Hello Natasha.
N.: - Hello Sergei.
S.: - How are you?
N.: - I’m good. And you?
S.: - I’m well. I’m travelling around the city. I’m near the Tower Bridge. It’s a very beautiful place.
N.: - Oh, it’s a pity. I can’t see all these places.
S.: - Don’t get upset. I think you’ll also see them.
N.: - May be. I’m sorry Sergei but I’m in a hurry. I’m going shopping.
S.: - OK. Good luck. Good bye.
N.: - Bye.
T: The second dialogue is between Kate and Valya.
K.: - Hello Valya.
V.: - Hi Kate.
K.: - How are you?
V.: - I’m fine. And you?
K.: - I’m good. What are you doing?
V.: - I’m near the Big Ben. It’s a great place.
Would you like to visit it?
K.: - Yes, I’d like but it’s better to stay at home. I’m watching cartoons now.
V.: - Yes, you are right. “ East or West, home is the best”.
T: So children Valya said “ East or West, home is the best”. Do you agree with this proverb?
Pupils: Yes, we do.
T: OK, children. You are agree that it is better to be at home. Yes, Great Britain is a very magnificent and beautiful country and we’d like to visit it. But Ukraine is our homeland. And we like it too. So, lets remember some poems about Ukraine.
